Hanezawa Garden è un percorso illegale attraverso un giardino murato a Tokyo, tra fitto fogliame, esili bambù e depandances semiabitate dai tetti di plastica appesantiti dalle foglie. Il protagonista, come un detective, cataloga il giardino ossessivamente, registrando strani e periferici dettagli: una scatola di cartone sigillata appoggiata ad un davanzale o un operaio di spalle che si allontana. Il tempo è vago e le stagioni scivolano via. I punti di osservazione attraverso lo Hanezawa Garden sono molteplici e mutevoli. I personaggi di questa narrazione sfuggente sono oggetti comuni. Le superfici sono iridescenti e ingovernabili. Le finestre, come le immagini stesse, promettono sempre qualcosa: una rivelazione che però rimane sempre irraggiungibile. Hanezawa Garden fu demolito dalla compagnia immobiliare Mitsubishi Estate nel 2012, nonostante gli innumerevoli tentativi dei residenti di preservare la casa e i giardini. Anders Edström è un fotografo e regista svedese e filmmaker che vive e lavora a Stoccolma.‎

Das Werk von Edward und Nancy Kienholz ist auf verschiedene Arten und Weisen, dem Betrachter der Ausstellung und dem Leser dieses Buches wird es deutlich werden, beispielhaft für die amerikanische Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts. Es hatte einen bedeutenden Einfluß auf die Entwicklung zeitgenössischer Skulptur und auf mehrere Generationen von Künstlern in Amerika und Europa. Seit den späten fünfziger Jahren schuf Ed Kienholz, später in der Zusammenarbeit mit seiner Frau und Partnerin Nancy Reddin Kienholz, kraftvolle, freistehende Skulpturen, oft in der Form von großen, begehbaren, bühnenartigen Installationen. Ausgezeichnet durch ein einzigartiges skulpturales Vokabular, große Deutlichkeit der künstlerischen Idee und einer außergewöhnlich leidenschaftlichen Verpflichtung gegenüber menschlichem Anstand und sozialer Gerechtigkeit, besaß das Werk auch eine ungewöhnliche Aktualität, die jede Ausstellung neuer Arbeiten zu einem gespannt erwarteten Erlebnis machte.
