New York: Crown Publishers 2000. INSCRIBED / SIGNED with a red sharpie by Kerry Kennedy Cuomo directly on the half title page. NOT a library discard. Very Good condition in a Near Fine dust jacket only light rubbing. NOT price clipped $50.00. Bound in the original red boards stamped in bright silver on the spine. From the publisher: "SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER presents an inspiring rainbow of heroes from more than thirty-five countries and five continents. In searing and uplifting interviews veteran human rights defender Kerry Kennedy Cuomo examines the quality of courage with women and men who are dramatically changing the course of events in their communities and countries. Imprisoned tortured and threatened with death they speak with compelling eloquence on subjects to which they have devoted their lives and for which they have been willing to sacrifice -- from free expression to the rule of law from women's rights to religious liberty from environmental defense to eradicating slavery from access to capitol to the right to due process. Accompanying the interviews are a powerful series of portraits by world-renowned photographer Eddie Adams. This is his first book representing two years of crisscrossing the globe to make these deeply felt and insightful images of courageous individuals including the internationally celebrated such as Vaclav Havel Baltasar Garzón Helen Prejean Marian Wright Edelman and Nobel Prize Laureates the Dalai Lama Desmond Tutu Elie Wiesel Oscar Arias Sánchez Rigoberta Menchú Tum José Ramos-Horta and Bobby Muller. But the vast majority of the defenders are unknown and as yet unsung beyond their national boundaries such as former sex slave and leading abolitionist Juliana Dogbadzi of Ghana domestic violence activist Marina Pisklakova of Russia mental disability rights advocate Gabor Gombos of Hungary and more than thirty others. SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER is accompanied by a major exhibition opening at The Corcoran Gallery of Art Washington D.C. then traveling nationally beginning in January 2001 at the Newseum New York. The authors also plan a fully integrated Web Site as well as an education and advocacy campaign by Amnesty International. In addition a theatrical presentation written by Ariel Dorfman based on the stories featured in the book will be performed by internationally known actors including Glenn Close Edward James Olmos Sigourney Weaver Alfre Woodard and others opening at the J. Pinhole photography by 33 young photographers.= 33 genç fotografçidan igne deligi fotograflari. [Exhibition catalogue]. Edited by Cem ileri.
Fine English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (30 x 22 cm). In English and Turkish. 205, [3] p., b/w photographs. All 33 young photographers featured in this exhibition produced equally striking images with the help of light sieved through the tiny holes punctured on the surface of cans. In terms of both style and composition, which is very hard to create with a pinhole, they demonstrated a skillful use of light in the photographs they captured. The ways in which they chose to express their efforts emphasized that what indeed captures the image is not the camera, but the creative mind. Under the guidance of their teacher, a handful of young students from Adana proved that photography requires brains and commitment rather than expensive equipment. Students in other schools initiated photography workshops by using the same technique. The "Pinhole Photographs" exhibition at Istanbul Modern Photograph Gallery brings together the works of 33 young students enrolled in various primary and secondary schools across Adana, who are dedicated to the art of photography and use the same technique that a number of photographers across the globe choose to employ. 105 p.

Kürsat Bayhan, Kerem Ozan Bayraktar, Zeynep Beler, Görkem Ergun, Beril Gür, Çaglar Kanzik, Oguz Karakütük, Barbaros Kayan, Gündüz Kayra, Neslihan Koyuncu, Desislava Senay Martiova, Ali Taptik, Serkan Taycan. [Exhibition catalogue]. Artist selection / photography advisory board: Merih Akogul, Orhan Cem Çetin, Murat Germen, Sitki Kösemen. Translated by Hande Eagle, Linda Stark. Istanbul Modern¿s latest contemporary photography exhibition, "Habitat", brings together varied perspectives on the spaces we live in. The exhibition examines the evolving concept of space, continuously defined and redefined, through the work of 13 artists selected by Istanbul Modern¿s Photography Advisory Board. Habitat, the place where an organism lives and grows, is sometimes used to define the setting for life¿s basic motion and conflict. All living creatures have to adapt to their environment or relocate in order to survive and continue their bloodlines. Their habitats are physically redesigned and restructured under the pressure of daily conditions. The borders that are drawn to determine biological, personal or political spaces usually give rise to contradictions and conflict. Spaces are not only shaped by physical intervention but also by social and personal memory; vestiges of events ingrained in our memory also shape the way spaces are recreated and reproduced in the collective conscience. Both conceptually and physically, habitat is being redefined every moment by the changing balance of power and the continual transformation this change creates.

New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 23,5 cm). In English and Turkish. 156, [7] p., color ills. Till it's gone: An exhibition on nature and sustainability.= Yok olmadan: Doga ve sürdürülebilirlik üzerine bir sergi.= Till it's gone: An exhibition on nature and sustainability. [Exhibition catalogue]. "TILL IT'S GONE" presents a selection of artists who undertake conceptual research on nature and focus on ecological issues in their artistic practices. The artists are from various generations and have intricate relationships with the concept of sustainability; they bring to bear diverse interpretations and insights pertaining to the interaction between human beings and the ecosystem. The exhibition features paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, and moving images by twenty artists and art collectives from Turkey and other geographies. Istanbul Modern launches the preliminary program of the exhibition on December 23, 2015, with Yoko Ono's large-scale installation "Ex It", which Ono describes as "life as a continuation". The catalogue includes images and texts about the artists and artworks in "TILL IT'S GONE" and three new essays proffering different perspectives on the premises of the show: following the conceptual framework of the exhibition by Celenk Bafra and Paolo Colombo, the author, educator, and environmentalist Richard Heinberg of the Post Carbon Institute asks-and answers-the question of "why sustainability?", and the art historian Dr. Roger Cook explores the relationship of nature and art in the context of the works in the exhibition in his article titled "Good Air My Friend: Art for the Anthropocene.

Artists in their time.= Sanatçi ve zamani. [Exhibition catalogue]. Edited by N. Can Kantarci. Prep. by Levent Çalikoglu.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 315, [5] p., color and b/w ills. Artists in their time.= Sanatçi ve zamani. [Exhibition catalogue]. Edited by N. Can Kantarci. Prep. by Levent Çalikoglu. Istanbul Modern's collection exhibition, "Artists in Their Time", focuses on how artists position their work and themselves within the concept of time. It suggests a conceptual field for examining, and reconciling, the links between an artist's time and societal, cultural, natural and universal time. It unites artists from very different periods, geographies and disciplines around common themes. "Artists in Their Time" takes as its starting point the words of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar (1901-1962), one of Turkey's foremost intellectual and literary figures: "I am neither within time nor completely outside of it." Tanpinar's views about time illuminate the process by which artists come to terms with the relationship of their work with the past, the present and the future. Accordingly, this exhibition groups together works of art from distinct geographies, periods and disciplines that share the same emotions with respect to a variety of themes: the intersecting responses of abstract art from different periods; the role of materials and studios in the production of art; the transformation from landscapes and still lifes to the present conception of nature; the search for identity; attraction to the Higher and the spiritual; existential questioning; body politics; feminist approaches; the complex problems imposed by the new urban culture; the struggle against war, death and destruction; life stories from Istanbul, a metropolis defined by water and embracing the sea; and efforts to understand the people of Anatolia.

La la la human steps. A selection from the Collection of Museum Boijmans van Beuningen.= La la la insan adimlari. Boijmans van Beuningen Müzesi koleksiyonundan bir seçki. 16 Subat - 6 Mayis 2012 [Exhibition catalogue].
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (27.5 x 23.5 cm). In Turkish and English. Color and B/w photos and ills. 91, [5] p. Within the framework of the celebrations of 400 years of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Turkey, Istanbul Modern is hosting the exhibition La La La Human Steps: A Selection from the Collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The show consists of a special selection gathered for Istanbul Modern by Sjarel Ex, Director of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, from the museum's collection of over 140 thousand works. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen was founded in 1849 and is one of the Netherland's most renowned museums with a worldwide reputation. Bringing together old masters and prominent contemporary artists, La La La Human Steps is a show that focuses on human relations in today's world. It is possible to translate, at historical, personal, and public levels, many themes pertaining to humanity, human relations, and our struggle to cope with life as human beings. Hence the show takes "us" as its starting point. While on the one hand the exhibition explores the individual's desire to find answers to personal issues, on the other it questions the ways in which individuals confront with one another in society. Artists featured are: Vito Acconci, Bas Jan Ader, Yael Bartana, Sebald Beham, Erhard Schon, Niklas Stoer, John Bock, David Claerbout, Pieter Coecke van Aelst, Peter Feiler, Yang Fudong Cyprien Gaillard, Sejla Kameric, Paul Kooiker, Inez van Lamsweerde, Erin van Lieshout, Aernout Mik, Melvin Moti, Zwelethu Mthethwa, Bruce Nauman, Joachim Patinir, Anri Sala, Cindy Sherman, Marijke van Warmerdam, Andro Wekua, Guido van der Werve, Sylvie Zijmans, Melvin Moti, Zwelethu Mthethwa, Bruce Nauman, Joachim Patinir, Anri Sala, Cindy Sherman, Salla Tykka, Marijke van Warmerdam, Andro Wekua, Guido van der Werve, Sylvie Zijlmans.
