In the frontier of Colorado in 1903, Frank Sherman had a photography studio and souvenir shop in Colorado Springs. he decided that he needed more postcards to sell to the tourists, so he visited his brothers who worked at the Holt Livestock Co., in Hugo, Colorado. He packed up his gear and went to photograph the cattle roundup. His timing was fortuitous. Just before the roundup was to start, word came that President Theodore Roosevelt would be stopping in Hugo on his western trip. Frank Sherman got the pictures. Those pictures and other wonderful images of the Old West are presented here for the first time. Having saved them from destruction, John Eggen has made it his avocation to preserve them and share them with a fascinated public. An earlier volume. Between 1965 and 1974 William Eggleston and Walter Hopps traveled together in the US Eggleston taking photographs Hopps driving. During these travels the title Los Alamos was born. The negatives for what became known as the Los Alamos Project were made between 1965 and 1974 and were archived in two boxes labeled Box #17 and Box #83. The latter was lost for several years. The project is presented in its entirety in this three-volume set for the first time. An earlier edition of "Los Alamos" edited by Thomas Weski was published by Scalo in 2003. Weski"s original essay is included in this revised edition. "Los Alamos Revisited" has been drawn from the complete set of photographs including the long lost negatives from Box #83. Flowers, along with trees and other foliage inevitably feature in many of Eggleston's photos as part of the Memphis streetscapes and interiors that are his favorite motifs. But in this book the flowers take center stage in all their mundane glory—be it a kitsch spray of gladioli and carnations in a cut-glass vase, a single rose before a box hedge, or a forlorn bunch on a white marble tomb inscribed with the word "Mama." Flowers is a further chapter in Steidl's publication of Eggleston's artist's books in new editions that honor the design and spirit of the originals.Flowers is a facsimile of the third of William Eggleston's rare artist's books, which was first published in an edition of only fifteen by Caldecot Chubb in New York in 1978. The original Flowers was a linen-bound volume with red leather spine and corners recreating the look of a photo album, and housed in a slipcase. Within its pages were twelve original chromogenic coupler prints focused on the theme of flowers.
