B&w photographs. "Wallace Kirkland has been a photographer for 'Life Magazine' since it began. One of the editors of that magazine is said to have remarked upon hearing of the book 'I always said you were the world's worst photographer and the world's best writer'. This book consists of the stories behind Kirkland's photographic assignments - some of the ones which became famous: The Fox Hunt The Birth of the Dragonfly and Jamaican Boyhood: A Memory and Man of Letters: Arthur Birnstengle who wrote his congressman for a wife with extra ordinary results and some of the ones which were never run such as the Portrait of Gandhi when he got Gandhi's autograph on the tail end of a goat.
