Dustwrapper shows faint wrinkling at same; unclipped; mylar-protected. Overall remains very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder. Not an Ex-Library copy. Oblong 4to. 126pp. Introduction by Harold Gilliam. Edited by Robert McDonald. Buckram over boards. Trade Edition of 1350 copies. First Edition 1994 unstated. Hardback with DJ. Light the source of life is the medium of Robert Bueltman's art. His vision is an inspiration. His photographs like all works of art are statements about the meanings of life and of art itself. In this book Buelteman presents fifty works of art each one independent of yet related to every other. Their link is the place that the artist visited to make his photographs the Watershed of San Francisco located on the peninsula south of The City. These many acres have for nearly 100 ears been closed to the public to protect the water essential to its survival. Buelteman however through perseverance sincerity altruism and charm gained access to this secret place which had intrigued him since his boyhood when he lived on its edge. Focusing on modest scenes of nature Buelteman demonstrates to us that beyond ostensible chaos there exists the same order that we see in nature's grand vista. Even occasional traces of incursions by human beings appear in the artist's works as elements in a larger pattern of order rather than as predatory invasions. The images in this book are individually unique works of art. Their particularities were occasions for the artist to make statements in his medium. They were not ordered sequentially by chronology location or subject. Visual rhythms balances contrasts and variations guided their arrangement into a larger composition analogous to a collection of poems or a classical song cycle. What times them together is Buelteman's interpretation of love - sensual spiritual intuitive total beyond understanding ancient and yet forever new. Oracle Publications, hardcover‎

‎New York NY Random House: Pantheon 2002. Hardcover First Edition 2002; First Printing indicated. Fine in Near Fine DJ: The Book's binding is square and secure; the text is clean. The DJ shows only the mildest rubbing; the price intact; mylar-protected. Virtually 'As New'. NOT a Remainder Book-Club or Ex-Library. 8vo. 304 pages. Hardback with DJ. What does landscape mean to us How does it shape our sense of rootedness to place and connection to community Can that sense and that connection enrich us in the same manner as having knowledge of our familial lineage Landscape historian John Warfield Simpson sets out to answer these questions by following the journey of the great conservationist John Muir from his homeland along the North Sea coast in East Lothian County Scotland to his familys adopted home in the fields and forests of Marquette County Wisconsin. Along the way he discovers much about himself; and we in turn can learn much about ourselves. In 1849 the Muirs immigrated from East Lothian to the wilds of central Wisconsin in search of religious and economic opportunity. What concept of land did they and millions of others from the Old World leave behind and what did they find in their New World homes Simpson physically retraces the Muirs journey as he delves into the meaning and importance of place. He speaks with estate owners and tenant farmers in Scotland who have centuries-long ties to the land they own or work; to Wisconsin farmers for whom one hundred years measures a profound connection to place; and to Native Americans working to reclaim the land they lost to white pioneers like the Muirs and to the authors own Scottish ancestors. Among all of these people Simpson discovers a powerful link between personal and communal history and a deep connection to the land on which they have been played out. Time and history landscape and community are tightly intertwined Simpson learns. Roots matter he discovers in his adopted home of Cockburnspath Berwickshire Scotland. Fine in Fine DJ: Book shows binding square and secure; text clean. DJ unclipped; mylar-protected. As New. NOT a Remainder Book-Club or Ex-Library. 8vo. 170pp. Hardback with DJ. Readers do not have to live in the south to appreciate the sincerity of the voice of Amy Blackmarr in her first collection of essays entitled "Going to Ground: Simple Life on a Georgia Pond." Blackmarr takes her experiences while living in her Grandfather's tar-papered unheated fishing cabin located in the woods of south Georgia and shows the reader how nature including human nature can change one's life forever. Though Blackmarr's pond is not Walden she does find answers to some of her questions about life and death her grandmother's and her dog's during her five-year stay. She realizes that only true friends are willing to take a long drive into the country to visit in a cabin that has no hot water or heat. Often alone she finds solace as well as wisdom in the company of Gene her neighbor who farms the land and Queenie and Max her dogs. "Going to Ground" is both humorous and thought-provoking. But perhaps the largest compliment for Blackmarr is her ability to relate to her reader to make the reader say "I understand; I've been there too." Penguin Group: Viking, hardcover‎

Overall very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder. NOT a Book-Club. NOT Ex-Library. 8vo. 319pp. Hardback with DJ. Traces both environmental destruction and social oppression to the Western world view that sets humankind outside of above and in conflict with nature. Tn excellent book that explains human/animal relations Unnatural Order establishes Jim Mason as one of the important intellectuals of the Animal Rights Movement. Mason provides a thoughtful and readable analysis of the relationship of people to animals throughout history. In this book Mason demonstrates how the changes in animal/people relationships have over time dramatically altered human existence. In much of the early history of humanity people lived in harmony with animals. Nature was viewed as containing fellow creatures with many of the same characteristics as people. Animals were revered and respeced. The move to an agricultural society where increasing numbers of animals became food resulted in a shift of consciousness. The culture became one in which humans were seen as dominant over and superior to animals. Humans increasingly separated themselves from nature and the animals often denying their own animal nature. The result is a human culture divorced from nature and suffering from all the ill effects that such a society produces. Mason's book should be read by every vegetarian and animal rights advocate. It is sure to be a classic in the field. Simon and Schuster, hardcover‎

‎Buffalo NY Amherst Media 1995. Paperback First Edition Thus Fifth Printing. Fine in Wraps: binding square and secure; text clean. Virtually 'As New'. NOT a Remainder Book-Club or Ex-Library. 4to. 108pp. First Edition Thus Fifth Printing. Paperback: Pictorial Wraps. Loaded with photographic examples this guide shows the range of possibilities of infrared photography and provides a thorough introduction to this increasingly popular art. Every aspect of working with infrared is introduced including the use of filters digital cameras night photography film and print development and even hand coloring. I found this book practical and detailed. While it does contain a wealth of technical detail photography is itself a technical subject and this book does not overdo it. There is plenty of clear practical advice; indeed one of the first things that the book has you do is load the camera and go out to shoot film. It also contains some information I haven't found in any other source the color temperature of candlelight It's there. In fact of all the books I have bought on photography this is only the second that I feel the author has given us the full extent of her knowledge. Something that I have found to be very rare in photography books. Most books I have read the author only touches the surface and does not go into any great detail on the subject. This is not the case with Infrared Photography Handbook. It starts at the basics and works its way gently into the very technical. Unfortunatley if you want to master the art of infrared photography you must get technical. While I am no genius I found by re-reading the sections that were difficult for me I was able to comprehend all of what the book had to say. If you are interested in infrared photography and want to studiously practice the craft this book is a must-have. Amherst Media, paperback‎

With more than 60 trips to the Antartic among them intrepid explorers and internationally renowned photographers Ron Naveen Colin Monteath Tui de Roy and Mark Jones have created this fantastic voyage of images and reflections on the loneliest most hostile and most breathtakingly beautiful landmass on earth. If ever you have considered visiting Antarctica - for whatever reasons this is the one book which will answer those questions which we until now unanswered. It says much for this work - which is described as a voyage of images and reflections by four explorers and photographers that the final copyright of the book itself is shown as belonging to the Smithsonian Institute. A sign of quality in itself. It would be easy to describe those images as "Outstanding" or "Stunning" - and so they are but those words are too frequently used for lesser photographs. This is a book which explains the Antarctic in a way in which it has not been explained before. It does so with an excellent mix of text and photography which answer many questions that until now remained unanswered. SIGNED BY AUTHOR. Smithsonian Institution Press, hardcover‎
