Profuse black-and-white illustrations mostly full-page after photographs by Pierre D'Harville. Very good. <p>The Belgian photographer Pierre d'Harville b. 1939 is best known for his homoerotic images. He was the manager of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Charleroi.<p>Serving as a poetic preface the essay "Caresses par la Lumiere" explores the feelings of a nude male model as he is being photographed. The essay is by the Belgian writer and film director Nadine Monfils. Monfils b.1953 directed the film "Madame Edouard" 2004 and has written a series of detective novels based on her character Inspector Leon a policeman who knits.<p>Tels Quels founded in 1979 is an LGBT association formed by gays and Socialist militants. Under the leadership of Luc-Daniel Dupire Tels Quels organized the first Gay and Lesbian Film Festival of Brussels in 1981. In that same year the monthly news magazine Tels Quels was founded in an attempt to present a positive image of the gay life style. He acted as a sort of modern court jester walking around in colorful costumes playing the harmonica and making random provocative comments to passers by. An unattributed typed translation of the Norwegian text is laid in including the extensive captions but not the introduction.<p>Rare. WorldCat locates one copy. His hand at center left cradles the the instrument's neck & strings. Identified at top left as "Photographs by Jeff Dunas" with Aperture's information printed vertically along the left edge. Venice circa 1860's. circa 1860's. Very good. - sc An original 4-3/4 inch high by 7 inch wide albumen print by Carlo Ponti depicting the Palazzo Vendramin the residence the Duchesse de Berry purchased from the descendants of the Vendramin Calergi family in 1844. The image shows the palatial front of the Palazzo its balcony overlooking the canal and front door opening up near a gondola moored next to the columns at the foot of a few steps. A sculpture adorns the garden wall at right and the facade of another home can be viewed along the right of the image. Mounted by the photographer onto 8-3/4 inch high by 11-3/4 inch wide light green mat board with printed white double rules framing the image. The photographer's blind stamp "Carlo Ponti / Venezia" is embossed at the bottom of the mat and the image is identified in ink on the mat below the photograph. There are a very few tiny spots in the image possibly in the negative. The recto of the mat is slightly soiled with much offsetting to the verso. A very good beautiful photograph. <p>The Swiss-born Italian photographer Carlo Ponti c.1823-1893 moved to Venice in 1852 after having studied photography in Paris. Having opened his own studio which catered to tourists he sold photographs in all formats. He won many awards including one which he was awarded in 1862 for his invention of the Magalethoscope an apparatus which allowed photos to be viewed through a large lens which created the illusion of depth and perspective. It is not surprising given this invention that he was also the optician to Italy's King Victor Emanuel II. [Venice, circa 1860's]. unknown

Very good. - sc A beautifully composed 6-1/2 inch high by 4-3/4 inch wide sienna-toned silver print portrait of a young woman and her mother or older sister standing at left in three-quarter profile. The older woman is dressed in a black dress with black frill and a high collar hinting at white frill. A black frill-decorated bonnet adorns her head. At her side centered in the image is a younger blond haired woman attired in an attractive white blouse and black skirt. Branches of trees are glimpsed in the background at left and a vase of flowers is perched on a mantel at right. Identified as Marina C. Risse and Lia Risse of Garatshay=usen Germany and dated 1920 in pencil on the verso the women hint at familial affection. Mounted by the photographer on a 13-1/2 inch high by 10 inch wide cream mat with the photographer's studio "Fritz Thudicum / Bildmassige Photographie / Tutzing a. Starnberger-See" stamped on the verso of the mat. The photographer's name is additionally blindstamped at bottom left of the image and the photographer has also boldly signed his name "F. Thudichum" in pencil on the mat under the portrait at right. The mat is slightly foxed and the edges of the mat are browned. The photograph is in fine condition. <p>German photographer Fritz Thudichum's photographs illustrate the book "Munchen: die Stadt als Kunstwerk" by Thudichum and Heinrich Kreisel Munich 1958.
