In between these essays the book contains beautifully printed gravure photographs by Domon. The first major Japanese book to document the horrific acts that took place at Hiroshima in 1945 and documents some of the survivors. One of the most notable photobooks of the 20th century and well-documented in Parr and Badger Volume 1 the Open Book as well as Auer. A handsome very good to near fine copy in black boards decorated with Miro-stylyings. The illustrated paper dustwrapper is somewhat chipped and worn at the edges and has a chip at the spine crown. SIGNED and stamped by Domon in Japanese on the first white endpaper. The book comes with the original hard printed slipcase which is fairly worn stained and scuffed. <br/><br/> Kenko-Sha hardcover

Considered by many to be one of Strand's crowning achievements of the era. Laid in to this copy is a one-page handwritten letter from Strand to a Mr. Oring. Letter is dated Dec. 15. 58 and is SIGNED by Strand in full at the bottom of the letter. Strand is responding to questions related to the publication of this and one other of his books.
