ORIGINAL SOFT HUED GELATIN SILVER PRINT PHOTOGRAPH OF A FARMER PITCHING HAY INTO A BARN'S HAYLOFT
Circa 1910. 1910. Very good. - sc - An original soft hued 5-1/2 inch high by 7-7/8 inch wide black and white photograph by this accomplished amateur woman photographer from Upstate New York. The image depicts a farmer standing on the long flat bed of his hay wagon in front of his large barn. Hay is flying off the end of his raised pitchfork into the barn's hayloft. A handsome white draft horse is depicted in profile. The rump and legs of another white horse can be glimpsed behind the first. Shadows from the overhanging branches hint at the majestic size of the tree which casts them. There is a one and a half inch scratch at middle right of the photograph probably in the negative and some slight browning at top right. There are glue stains and remnants of black paper from a scrapbook to the corners of the verso. Very good. <p>An accomplished woman amateur photographer Jeannette Vogt hails from Upstate New York. An illustration of her 1890s photograph of a woman photographing through a doorway is depicted in Naomi Rosenblum's book "A History of Women Photographers" Abbeville Press 2010. The caption next to the illustration reads "Jeannette Vogt Jean Bernard C. 1860 - date unknown". The photograph illustrated in the book is from the Miller- Plummer Collection of Photography in Philadelphia. Circa, [1910]. paperback

Circa 1910. 1910. Very good. - sc - An original soft hued 6 inch high by 8 inch wide black and white photograph by this accomplished amateur woman photographer from Upstate New York. The image depicts a handsome stone bridge its arch spanning across a nearly dry gulley. Branches are stacked under the arch at the left of the image. The trunks and branches of denuded trees can be glimpsed beneath the bridge's arch and also rising above the bridge. The tip of the top right corner is creased. There are glue stains and remnants of black paper from a scrapbook to the corners of the verso. Very good. <p>An accomplished woman amateur photographer Jeannette Vogt hails from Upstate New York. An illustration of her 1890s photograph of a woman photographing through a doorway is depicted in Naomi Rosenblum's book "A History of Women Photographers" Abbeville Press 2010. The images of the girl and boy are full-body portraits showing them in different poses; the images of the woman are just of her face directly and in profile. Spine and edges of boards a little sunned and spotted; but a lovely volume near fine. No duplicates. Poses differ as do the tightness of the portrait from headshot to full-body. Tissue-guarded silver prints 97 x 139 mm mounted to recto only of grey heavy cardstock leaves with studio's name stamped in the bottom margin. Some very light scuffing at spine tips and corners otherwise bindings are fine. Off-setting of photograph onto tissue-guards creating some wonderful ghosts. Depicted standing in a formal portrait pose in one image he is shown in full swing in the other. The photographer's name and address "N. Circa 1935. 1935. Fine. - sc The 7-3/4 inch high by 9-7/8 inch wide black & white glossy photograph playfully depicts what can best be called a fashion still life. The image depicts a lone female mannequin in a fashionable store attired in shorts and a slick raincoat among an army of display coat racks attired in men's jackets. The photographer's name and address are stamped in blue on the verso with editorial annotations also penciled on the verso. Near fine. <p>This wonderful image reminds one of the Hollywood musicals of the 1940's which often featured dance and song numbers starring the female lead centered in the front row escorted by an army of suavely attired male dancers lined in columns behind her at the opening of the dance number. The long-haired young boy attired in checkered outfit with boots is seated in an overstuffed chair holding a riding crop in his right hand. The photographer's credits are printed on the verso of the mount "G. Volkerling in Dessau / Maler u Hof-Photograph . Silberne Preis Medaillen: / Berlin 1865 / Paris 1867 / Hamburg 1868 / Groningen 1869". The young man is identified in pencil on the verso as "Albert W. Speyers / 3 1/2 years / Nov. 1872". "For Uncle Louis" is penned in ink at the top of the verso. There is a small spot of soiling to the image above the boy's head and several pin marks at the top and bottom of the soiled mount. Good.
