After A Few Years In An Apartment At The Chateau Elysee On Franklin Avenue Now Interestingly Scientology's "Celebrity Centre" The Fifields Moved To Another Copper Harbor The Name Traveling With The Family. Not One To Let The Catholic Church Upstage Him-That Faith's Archbishop Lived In Conspicuous Luxury At 100 Fremont Place-Fifield Bought #55 In 1956. The Name Copper Harbor-And Apparently The Real Family Funds And Perhaps Much Of The Taste For Grandeur-Originated With Mrs. Fifield's Family; Her Father Had Developed Mines Back In Copper Harbor Michigan At The Extreme Northerly Point Of That State. After Helen Fifield A Collector Of Children'S Books Died On November 15 1957 The Reverend Even Before Disposing Of #55 Bought Another House In The Neighborhood 118 Fremont Place. There He Maintained The Splendor Even If His Career Had Long Since Been Eclipsed. 118 Also Became An Office To Which Readers Of The Los Angeles Times Were Encouraged To Write For A Tract Produced By Dr. Fifield And His Daughter Mary Entitled "Does God Care" <br/> <br/> Whitman Publishing Company hardcover

He Was Raised In Los Angeles And Attended The Harvard School For Boys. After Leaving He Was Given Instruction In Art By His Uncle The California Artist J. Bond Francisco. While He Was In His Early 20S He Traveled To Paris With His Friend Stanton Macdonald Wright And Spent Several Years There Studying Art. Around The Time Of His Marriage In 1913 He Became Involved In The Nascent Film Industry In The Los Angeles Area And Was Involved In The Design And Construction Of Some Of The Earliest Studios There. He Continued In The Film Industry As An Art Director Until His Retirement In 1959. In The Mid-1930S He Spent Several Years In England Working For Alexander Korda Designing Studios For Him. After His Return To The United States He Spent The Remainder Of His Active Career Working For Rko. He Was Nominated For Two Academy Awards For Art Direction 1929 And 1944 But His Best Known Film Is "It'S A Wonderful Life". Gilt Lettering On Cover Bright Green Cloth Faded On Spine But Gilt Lettering Still Bright. Fraying At Top Of Spine With Some Loss Of Cloth Otherwise Whole. Endpapers Show Some Aging. Lorentz Went On To Make Many Films For Roosevelt In The Thirties. See Pare Lorentz "Fdr's Moviemaker.". Clare Booth Brokaw Luce Was Coeditor Later Managing Editor Of Vanity Fair And Had Hired Lorentz As Their Movie Critic. " I Was So Impressed With The Use Of Photographs That I Began To Promote The Idea Of Photographing The Great Changes That Were Taking Place In America. Practically All Of The Pictures In My Magazine Were Of People And Some Of Them Were Used In A Comic Manner. I Never Saw Anything Of The Main Streets Of Little Towns With Big Signs 'Store For Rent' And No Shots Of Rusting Coal Cars And Idle Tipples And Smokeless Smokestacks Along The Roads I Drove On My Way Back To West Virginia To Visit My People. I Decided If I Couldn't Make A Movie I Would Collect News Photographs And Do A Picture Book In The Form Of A Newsreel With Large Captions At The Top And Concise News Photographs Alongside The Big Pictures." Lorentz's First Film Was "The Plow That Broke The Plains" A Classic About The Dust Bowl. There's A Nice Shot Of Lorentz By Dorothea Lange 1936 Taken On The Rooftop Of The Department Of Agriculture Building. A Nice Copy In The Scarce Dustjacket With Wear At Edges Chipping At Corners And At Head And Foot Of Spine. Book almost as new slight aging. DJ with slight chipping across top and bottom of spione a few short edge tears price clipped. Inscribed "To Ikuo Serisawa a wonderful photographer and artist - responsible of some of this book - sincerely Pierre Sicard." Sicard 1900-1980 was then living in Los Angeles and Serisawa took some of the photographs in the book including the frontispiece portrait. This un-numbered copy was apparently one of the author's copies and given to Serisawa who then put his seal on it. <br/> <br/> Librairie Rombaldi hardcover
