The Naylor Collection. Celebrating the History of Photography
This is a very good softcover copy with just slight wear to the front cover lower edge. Spine not creased and completely clean inside and out. This is a sale catalog for an auction held at Guernsey's in New York on October 18- 21, 2007. This was a massive sale that stretched over 6 sessions on 4 days. The Naylor collection was formed by Thurman F. Naylor over several decades following World War II. Naylor specialized in collecting photographic ephemera: cameras used by famous photographers for prized photographs, special cameras in the history of photography, in addition to a world class collection of Daguerreotypes. Almost all lots illustrated in color. 12" high X 9" wide, 234 pages. No prices realized sheets. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.

The sale featured a set of furniture (12 lots) by Carlo Zen (1851-1918), and a number of photographs and some drawings and furniture (13 lots) by Carlo Mollino (1905- 1973). Also Italian glass, Memphis furniture, etc. The front and back covers have reproductions of Carlo Mollino's photographs of Rina Pistoi wearing a transparent black veil costume and pulling Mollino's paper mache light 'Promenade du Dragon' like a pet being taken for a walk. 6 other photos of Rina Pistou, some with Mollino. 96 lots in the sale. All illustrated in color. No prices realized sheets, just price estimates for each lot. 11" high X 8" wide, 63 pages.

This is a fine softcover copy in stiff flexible vinyl type covers with no wear at all. Completely clean inside and out. Text in Spanish with English summary at the end. This catalog was prepared to accompany the exhibition at the Reina Sofia in 2003. Nicolas de Lekuona (1913-1937) was an enormously talented Spanish artist who worked in the media of photography and painting. His photomontages from the 1930's are reminiscent of Hannah Hoch, Heartfield et al. This catalog is the first serious attempt to rescue Lekuona from the obscurity that his death at age 24 condemned him. Bibliography. This is a good hardcover reference copy with some wear to the boards and stains to the boards and lower page-edges of many pages. Spine tips bumped. No dust jacket. The stains are faint on the photograph pages, but more apparent on the title page and single page of text. All of the black & white photographs are printed in photogravure, and its difficult to impossible to see this defect on many pages. But the stain is at the bottom of the gutter or center of the book and is visible on pages where the image is not printed full to the edges of the sheet, but has a substantial white margin. 13" high X 11" wide. Short neat inscription in Polish dated 1961 on the half-tile. All in all a serviceable reference copy of a beautiful book. Shipping costs to Europe $60.
