Softcover self-wraps with the banner title above three columns of text. 8 unopened uncut pages each with 3 columns of text printed on both sides of a folded 19 inch high by 24 inch wide sheet of newsprint with 2 woodcut illustrations including one illustrating Madge Elliot's poem "How They Helped Santa Claus". There is a tear along one of the vertical folds a few small stains to the cover page including ink stains and a couple of tiny tears to the front edges of the pages. Good.</p><p>A clever advertising periodical for Baldwin the Clothier a men's clothing store which includes a few articles and columns on the clothing trade interspersed with poems playful and witty stories and anecdotes. Among the fashion or clothing contents are found short articles such as "Very Naughty Boys" about a young man with a too short overcoat a line about "Thousands of Business Suits" "The Fat Men's Association" a line about "Imported Fabric" "English Pattern Ulsters" a column listing prices of various suits etc.</p><p>Evidently in honor of William Cullen Bryant's 80th birthday November 8 1874 his poem "Thanotopsis" is published in this issue.</p><p>RARE.</p> New York: (Baldwin the Clothier), 1874. paperback

Photo-illustrated title page.<br /> <br /> This scarce work is a striking piece of photographic propaganda displaying the power and glory of the Japanese Imperial Navy during WWII. Illustrated throughout with a total of 74 mostly full-page b/w collotype images including stunning aerial photography.<br /> <br /> The photobook is divided into two parts: the first one is concerned with naval training while the second part deals with the unfolding course of the war being a record of Japanese successes from Pearl Harbor Malaya New Guinea and other parts of South East Asia. <br /> <br /> This is one of the very first publications to have show and extended pictorial account of the bombing of Pearl Harbor including a number powerful and dynamic images two of the images seen to be illustrations. Includes also numerous b/w Soviet-style photographic plates of naval guns battleships submarines and military planes as well as photographs of operations in China Java Borneo Philippines New Guinea and other areas in Southeast Asia. None of the images are credited to a particular photographer but included is work by Matsugi Fujio and possibly Kimura Ihei. The beginning of the section contains a finely detailed illustrated map showing Japanese naval positions and battles across the pacific theater.<br /> <br /> Text and captions throughout in Japanese.<br /> <br /> Slipcase with some light scratches as well as minor age toning and smudges. Corners rubbed and lightly chipped. Binding with minor stains smudges and scratches to the covers. There is a small 1/2" stain on the upper right corner of the front cover. Edges lightly rubbed with the head of the spine lightly chipped. Interior covers and endpaper lightly damp-stained. Gutters of interior covers reinforced. Benaki Museum & Photochoros 2001. Brand new. Bilingual edition greek-english. Soft cover 25X20 cm 270 pp. ill.: 38 color and 243 B/W pictures. This is the catalogue that accompanied the exhibition of the same name held at the Benaki Museum in the fall of 2001. The 280 photographs contained in this book were taken by 34 young Greek photographers to which were added those of two French photographers regular visitors to Greece Jean-Francois Bonhomme and the well-known artist Bernard Plossu covering the latter years of the century that has just ended. The photographers freely portrayed the feature of the city that interested them most without any effort to document or any scientific precision. Thus we have an image of Athens seen through the completely subjective approach of young photographers and artists who were born or live in this city. // Se trata del catalogo de la exposicion del mismo titulo presentada en el Museo Benaki en otono de 2001. Las 280 fotografias que componen la edicion fueron tomadas por treinta y cuatro jovenes fotografos griegos a los que se anadieron desinteresadamente dos fotografos franceses visitantes habituales de Grecia Jean-Francois Bonhomme y el celebre artista Bernard Plossu y cubren los ultimos anos del siglo que acaba de terminar. Los fotografos reflejaron con total libertad el asunto que les interesaba mas de la apariencia exterior de la ciudad sin aspiracion alguna de documentacion o exactitud cientifica. De este modo tenemos la imagen de una Atenas a traves de la mirada absolutamente subjetiva de jovenes artistas de la fotografia que nacieron y viven en esta ciudad.
