[LIGHTING -- PHOTOGRAPHY].
Illuminations a Paris nord. Souvenir album with 43 striking & often surreal nighttime black & white photographs of monuments such as the Place de la Concorde Arc de Triomphe Sacre Coeur and the Opera House.
Paris: Electricite de France Service de l’Eclairage Public 1956. 4to. 56 pp unpaginated. on thick card stock w/ 43 tipped-in black & white photographic images sized 6.5 x 8.75 in. 10 photographic site labels on glossy paper stock cursive writing in negative sized 2.5 x 4 in. Photo-illustrated covers on thick paper spiral wire binding as issued title w/in negative at upper right corner minor bumping to upper right corner minor edgewear 1 small scuff front cover partial bending to some of the spiral wire loops still a VG copy. An outstanding photographic souvenir album documenting the nighttime illumination of Parisian monuments and the spotlights fixtures control panels and generators to create and sustain these affects in the decade following World War II. From the Belle Epoque forward Paris public lighting was an integral part of the appeal and spectacle of the city and in 1946 following World War II as France began to rebuild all public lighting illuminations of monuments and road signs were vested in the Electricite de France EDF as they quickly embarked on projects partially financed by the Marshall Plan. EDF appears to have contracted a talented and artistic photographer to create this souvenir album combining the influences of Peter Miller and Sabine Weiss. Divided into 10 different monuments the images focus not on the monuments themselves but rather the dramatic and ethereal effects of the lighting on statuary street scenes and unconventional views of the Arc de Trimphe the Rond des Champs Elysee the Eglise de la Trinite and de la Madeline and the Fontaines de la Porte St. Cloud. Only a sliver of the Sacre Coeur is shown with succeeding photos showing the light emplacements and views of the City while many views of the statues fountains palaces and the Luxor Obelisk fill out the views of the Place de la Concorde. No copies located in Worldcat; See: The EDF Adventure: A Global Electricity Company in the Spotlight 2021; Memoire de l’Electricite du Gaz et de l’Eclairage public Public Lighting of the City of Paris 2017. Trabalza, Ivano [and] Neysa Jin, photography - [Opera, ballet, light opera festival and farewell]
Documentazione Fotografica dell'attivita di Fondazione Carla Fendi per Il Festival Dei Due Mondi 54 with Ritratto di una amicizia: Gian Carlo Menotti nelle immagini di Mariano de Furia
Spoleto: Archivio Fotografico 2011. Two related items in a clever slipcase cum snap-closer box: largely captioned portrait and group photography b&w only in the Gian Carlo Menotti honor-fest vivid color in book devoted to Carla Fendi. Neither volume paginated Fendi's is lengthy and bound in laminated colorphoto boards the Menotti in openweave black cloth and dust jacket and much shorter. Item shows very classy upper-class doings the men in formal attire the women quite variously dressed there are g-strings for burly-que fun. Readers musically in tune will recognize many faces here this cataloguer was merely Oooo! Pavarotti! Both Menotti and Fendi make people open up; he for example is the only party host who ever publicly drew out Jackie Onassis' reserve; his congrats to her on RFK's win in the 1968 CA primary was met with her flairing "Why they will just kill him like they killed my husband" a remark that made European media but not here. PHOTOGRAPHY BROADSIDE, Paris 1860s
Broadside. Advertising Photography 1860's Paris
Rare Photography Broadside for a Parisian photography studio operated by Allophones Lionel who was active in the 1860s according to Getty Images. Lionel advertises a guarantee that no photographer had offered: a proof - "epreuve" - of the image before the photograph is printed and if the client does not like the image the photographer will take a second photograph and offer a second proof for no additional charge. <br /> <br /> A caricature of the famed French photographer Nadar appears to sit on a camera in the broadside's highly decorative design. The sheet measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches and is normally aged with slight chip in upper left corner else very good condition. Photographs of individuals in the carte-de-vi site style established in the 1850's became more popular in the 1860's with many photographers competing for clients. This richly designed broadside must have appealed to new customers. We have not found another example of this broadside. "Photography Universal Du XIX Cecile" Paris ca 1860s. unknown

Original boards with coloured illustrated original wrappers in original board-box. First edition . - One of 30 copies of the special deluxe edition with the signed and numbered C-Print Photo-Print "Tameike-Sanno Subway Station Tokyo March 6 8.30 a.m." by Marius Born. Collective order is the term Swiss photographer Marius Born uses to describe urban life in Tokyo which forms the subject of this volume. Borns images depict a system of social order which appears alien to him. The dominance of order is so extreme that even the homeless neatly lay out their sleeping mats in a park and children in an amusement park are identified by the numbers that they wear. Born succeeds in capturing this order in his images revealing the empty spaces even in crowded public spaces. Thus the path to the subway along which the masses stream during the day becomes the site of a solitary stroll. Similarly a bicycle ride to the grounds of the Imperial Palace turns into a leisurely outing. hardcover

Framing the West: The Survey Photographs of Timothy H. O'Sullivan
New Haven CT: Yale University Press 2010. 1st. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Hardcover 272 pages. The image of the untamed American West persists as one of our country's most enduring cultural myths and few photographers have captured more compelling images of the frontier than Timothy H. O'Sullivan. Trained under Mathew Brady O'Sullivan accompanied several government expeditions to the West—most notably with geologist Clarence King in 1867 and cartographer George M. Wheeler in 1871. Along these journeys O'Sullivan produced many beautiful photographs that exhibit a forthright and rigorous style formed in response to the landscapes he encountered. Faced with challenging terrain and lacking previous photographic examples on which to rely O'Sullivan created a body of work that was without precedent in its visual and emotional complexities. The first major publication on O'Sullivan in more than thirty years Framing the West offers a new aesthetic and formal interpretation of O'Sullivan's photographs and assesses his influence on the larger photographic canon. The book features previously unpublished and rarely seen images and serves as a field guide for O'Sullivan's original prints presenting them for the first time in sequence with the chronology of their production.
