Includes scarce original transmittal envelope an ingenious thin cardboard multi-fold chemise addressed to Michael Feingold the long time New York theatre credit who wrote for the Village Voice for over twenty years. Book Condition: absolutely fine pristine. A very sharp copy. Transmittal envelope shows bumps and bruises consistent with a long journey from Tokyo to New York in a variety of mail bags but is completely intact. There's always been a certain hautiness about the superiority of the Japanese catalog's production values but having never been able to view the two editions side by side we cannot confirm or deny the truth in this preference. We can say that the reproductions in this volume are extraordinarily beautiful. The exhibition consists of works from the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film Rochester New York. London: Barker Motion Photography 1915. First Edition. Sewn binding disbound. Good-. Oblong large octavo unpaginated 35pp. A good copy at best in the publisher's swen wraps with yapped edges. Edges cuopped and the sewing missing thus the book is laid-into the wraps. The contents themselves are in lovely condition and we presume it is complete although of this we can't be completely sure. A wonderful promotional booklet for the 1915 adaptation of the story of Jane Shore starring Blanche Forsythe and Roy Travers. Of the 35 leaves printed rectos only 29 are comprised of 6" x 5" 150mm x 125mm photographic prints tipped onto leaves with black borders and captions. These prints depict shots from the motion picture. The brief text gives the story's background the cast etc. We were unable to locate the pamphlet in broad searches in OCLC indicating a highly ephemeral and scarce document of early silent film. Though regrettably disbound still wuite clean and presentable; a wonderfully visual and engaging remnant of early cinema promotion. Barker Motion Photography unknown

Occupational portrait of sixteen men with "Little Minister" caps
<p>Photograph 5 x 7 inches mounted on 7 x 9 embossed card. In Good condition heavily soiled and worn around the board edges small half-inch loss at the upper left corner of the photograph. No markings on verso. The men are possibly furnace workers several with towels around their necks and all six in the bottom row holding twin pipes. Each man wears a hat two of which are visibly branded "Little Minister" utilizing the front panel as a billboard. B. F. Goodrich held a trademark for "Little Minister" recorded in the Pearson 1916 <em>Rubber Trade Directory </em>p.412. The product was a small toy one of very few manufactured by the Akron company better known for tires and sporting equipment. The hat may have been part of a promotion for the company—or perhaps it was related to the 1934 film adaptation of J. M. Barrie's starring Katharine Hepburn Whatever the context they're unusually early examples of the iconic American baseball cap used for advertising--a practice more associated with the rise of "trucker hats" in the 1970s.</p>

MIGRANT CHILDREN IN CALIFORNIA
A black-and-white photograph of the barefoot children of migrant workers in California in the 1960s reminiscent of the Depression-era photographs of Dorthea Lange and Walker Evans. This 7" x 9" image was taken by Bob Shumway 1930-2012 a staff photographer for the Long Beach Independent Press Telegraph from 1956 to 1977. According to an Associated Press caption pasted to the verso of the photo it was part of a photo essay titled "Children of the Sun" which cast a spotlight on the children of migrant farm workers who follow their nomadic parents from place to place. "Their homes are the autos or trucks they travel in or for the more fortunate a tent. One father said about one of his recent jobs 'I had to pick five trees to get one box of lemons. They were paying 18 cents a box. I picked nine boxes in eight hours. How do you feed a family on that kind of money' unknown

25 photographs of the 1936 St. Patrick's Day Flood Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Near fine. Green pebbled leatherette album 7 x 10 inches. Photos measure in the 2.75 x 4.5" - 3.5 x 5" rangemounted with paper photo corners on dry black paper with short closed edgetears to the top of the first four leaves with a small loss to the gutter corner of the first leaf; album and photographs otherwise Near Fine. Series with deckled edges have stamps on the verso: "10 point Nutone Process Certified by the Photo Finishing Institutes" and "James Lett Co." dated June 1 1936 and March 16 1937" the anniversary of the flood. Others unmarked. <br /> <br />A sober and sublime collection of images showing the city post-deluge: fragile-looking steel mills submerged trolley cars men in canoes paddling across gas station signs etc. The Great St. Patrick's Day Flood is considered the worst in the city's history destroying over 100000 buildings and paralyzing nearly every facet of life and industry. The album includes many views of Pittsburgh's downtown--famously situated at the confluence of the Allegheny Ohio and Monongahela Rivers--which was estimated to be 65% underwater. Commemorative markers of the incredible water levels remain throughout downtown. Also includes industrial views and a few snapshots of residential areas. All original photographs by an unidentified bystander with a sensitive eye. <br/><br/> hardcover
