Doisneau, Robert ; Jean Petit
Bonjour Monsieur Le Corbusier
Zurich: Hans Grieshader 1988. Large Square 4to. 111 pp. illustrated throughout. Still shrinkwrapped. FRENCH TEXT but with a 20 pp. booklet that provides an English and German translation. Robert Doisneau was employed as an in-house photographer by Renault a job he willingly quit to work free-lance. He was the photographer of the Résistance documenting both the occupation and the liberation of Paris. His commissioned works for the Racho Agency put his name on the map but it was his images of Paris streets and street life that made him world-famous. Doisneau repeatedly portrayed prominent personalities of his time an example is the mesmerizing portrait of Pablo Picasso with fingers made of cake dough but only the best-informed experts and most loyal followers were aware of the series of portraits of Le Corbusier made in the early 1950s. In 1988 a small extract of this series was published in a then-groundbreaking edition that presented Doisneau's images in a luxurious yet still discreet form. Most of the time the architect painter and sculptor Le Corbusier was painfully aware of the camera watching over him and when concentrated he playfully manipulated the camera by chosing different poses or expressions. Sometimes though Doisneau was able to catch the modern master at unexpected moments. Reminiscent of his snapshots of Paris life these images show us the human being that was behind one of the great thinkers and innovators of the 20th century. Fine copy in it's plain card slipcase. 3905103028 . Fine. Hardcover. First Edition. 1988. Hans Grieshader 1988 hardcover

Doisneau, Robert; Baecque, Antoine de (Foreword by)
Doisneau: Portraits of the Artists
Paris: Flammarion 2008. Cloth 191 pages chiefly illustrations; 32 cm. English Edition. Translated from the French by Margo Bedingfield. BRAND NEW. A fine copy. Still in publisher's shrinkwrap. OVERSIZE! No priority/international except by arrangement. Profusely illustrated. "During the golden age when Montparnasse was teeming with artists Robert Doisneau gained remarkable access to the artists working in Paris from 1937 onwards and he visited their studios and caught them in various private moments: working reflecting and even playing with their children. This book which includes some previously unpublished photographs shares Doisneau's intimate view on the work and lives of these artists. Many remain famous--Picasso David Hockney Jasper Johns Giacometti Saul Steinberg Marcel Duchamp Le Corbusier Foujita--while others have fallen into obscurity perhaps one day to be rediscovered. Regardless of the artist's social status--whether major figure of the day or struggling newcomer--Doisneau approached each subject with the same humble eye. His signature black-and-white photographs capture the nostalgia of the period and bear witness to these artists in the act of creating some of the world's finest art. This book published in cooperation with Doisneau's daughters is a fascinating document of the daily lives of artists by one of the world's most famous and popular photographers." - Publisher. 1st. DOISNEAU, Robert (Gentilly 1912 - Montrouge 1994)
From Craft to Art
Gottingen: Steidl 2010. Rilegato hardback. Perfetto Mint. Biografia e bibliografia. Cm 24x18. pp. 121. Perfetto Mint. Prima edizione First Edition. Steidl, hardcover
