Geburtstag. - Franz Jonas amtierte von 1951 bis 65 als Bürgermeister von Wien, anschließend hatte er bis zu seinem Tod das Amt des Bundespräsidenten inne. - Lili Marberg (1876-1962) gehörte von 1911 bis 1950 dem Wiener Burgtheater an. Seit 1936 auch Ehrenmitglied, spielte sie zunächst in Stücken Wedekinds, Hauptmanns und Ibsens, später vorwiegend Königinnen und mütterliche Frauen und galt weithin als vorzügliche Charakterdarstellerin. Zu ihren Hauptrollen zählten Desdemona, Hedda Gabler und Helena in "Vor Sonnenaufgang". Ihre einzige Filmrolle war die des Fräulein Munk in Walter Reischs "Silhouetten" (1936). - Auf Briefpapier mit Briefkopf des Bürgermeisters der Stadt Wien.

In 1890, the Opéra-Comique revived "Dimitri". - Dated according to a collector's note in pencil. With a small newspaper clipping concerning Joncières' final opera "Lancelot" pasted on the recto (ca. 66 x 19 mm) and a larger clipping of an obituary pasted on the verso. Left margin reinforced. Some browning.

4to. 3 pp. on 2 leaves. A remarkable letter to Ludwig Marcuse who had published "Sigmund Freud. Sein Bild vom Menschen" the year before: "[...] Unfortunately in writing about Freud's personality in the first chapter you have suffered the same fate of the many other approaches to the subject. It seems always to stir some unconscious conflicts which lead to serious misinterpretations and incorrect hypotheses which only add to the distorted legends of that personality which are so frequent. It even affects the capacity to quote correctly simple facts even when they are perfectly clear in my biography. Thus Freud did not see his mother naked between the age of 2 and 2½, but precisely when he was three and a half (S. 17). Freud's difficulty in expressing his angry emotions was that he could not make them literaturfähig, not literarisch-historisch (S. 25). Prof. Putnam was not present at the first Psa Congress (S. 35); the only one he ever attended was the second. Freud's Eisenbahnangst, which you say was not neurotic, was certainly neurotic and could lead to fainting fits in the railway station [...] No one who knew Freud personally would ever have thought of him as either melancholisch or a Grobianus. He had excellent social manners and a constantly cheerful temperament to the end of his life. He once referred to himself as a 'cheerful pessimist', but he explained carefully that what people meant by pessimist was realist: a sceptic who doubted the practicability of achieving idealistic visions (such as the communist one) [...]". - On stationery with printed address.

Brown qui fut le probable commanditaire de la reliure. Couverture conservée. Signé à la plume ("Hommage de l'auteur") par Huysmans à la page de faux-titre. À noter que la page de titre indique la date de 1899 et la couverture 1900. Quasi toutes les pages ont été renforcées par le relieur pour prévenir leur friabilité. "Rarement l'homme et l'auteur se sont identifiés davantage que chez M. Huysmans. C'est à peine si le romancier se distingue des types qu'il a créé. Décrire, avec sa précision, les effets de certains sacrements, c'est les avoir ressentis, à deux genoux, comme un croyant. Et il faut être encore pratiquant pour se plaire aux mystiques, pour se nourrir de la liturgie, pour s'approprier la pensée des saints, pour glorifier l'Église avec des accents qui n'appartiennent qu'à ses fils." This first baseman debuted with the New York Giants in 1927 until 1929 and also played for the Washington Senators 1931 Boston Braves 1932-37 Cincinnati Reds 1937-38 and Philadelphia Phillies 1938. Large bold "Baxter Buck Jordan" in blue ballpoint heavy stock 5" X 3" card n.p. n.y. Very good. Nice later life example. unknown

2 SS. auf Doppelblatt. 8vo. An einen Hrn. Hublot (?): "Besten Dank für Deine Zusendung [...] und für Deinen Brief. Ich kann mir denken, daß die Wiederkehr nach Bonn für Dich ein Ereignis freudigster Art gewesen ist. Was mich anlangt so wirst Du aus meiner Ablehnung des Kieler Rufs ersehen haben daß ich nicht mehr wie früher unter allen Umständen meine hiesige Stellung aufzugeben geneigt bin. Ob mein Wunsch sie gegen eine behaglichere einzutauschen noch einmal in Erfüllung gehen wird bezweifle ich, habe auch wenig Lust diesem Gedanken nachzuhängen. Aus der Vorrede zu dem von mir bearbeiteten römischen Preller wirst Du ersehen daß ich die Osterferien wieder in Rom war, hauptsächlich um Theognis zu collationiren und endlich die leidige Topographie fertig zu machen [...]". - Mit dem "römischen Preller" ist Ludwig Preller's "Römische Mythologie" gemeint, deren dritte Auflage Jordan herausgab und die noch im selben Jahr erscheinen sollte.
