Fußzeile "Beitrag zum Selbstschriftenalbum 'Deutschlands Zukunft'", eines mit montiertem Schildchen "Beitrag zum [...]" und eines mit gedr. Formular für biograph. Daten. Jedes Blatt aufgezogen auf einen Bogen Pergamentpapier (ca. 330:344 mm). "Der Unfriede von Versailles hat Deutschland vorläufig aus der Reihe der Kolonialmächte gestrichen. Die 'freie, weitherzige und unbedingt unparteiische Schlichtung aller kolonialen Ansprüche', die Präsident Wilson am 8. Januar 1918 als Grundlage des kommenden Rechtsfriedens in Aussicht gestellt hatte, lief auf nichts anderes als einen nackten Raub unserer Tochterländer über See hinaus. Verschleiert wurde er durch das eigens zu diesem Zweck ausgeklügelte Mandatsystem, fadenscheinig bemäntelt der leichtgläubigen Welt gegenüber mit der niederträchtigen Kolonialschuldlüge, die uns als unfähig und unwürdig zur Kolonialarbeit hinstellte [...]". - Die beiden weiteren Sentenzen unterschiedlicher Länge decken sich teilweise inhaltlich, beginnen und enden gleichlautend: "'Zurück zu Bismarck!' lautet das Losungswort für Millionen Menschen deutscher Zunge, die mit heißem Herzen die Stunde der Freiheit herbeisehnen [...]". - Geschrieben als Beitrag für die von Friedrich Koslowsky im Berliner Eigenbrödler-Verlag herausgegebene Faksimile-Anthologie "Deutschlands Köpfe der Gegenwart über Deutschlands Zukunft" (1928). Die erstgenannte Sentenz bei Veröffentlichung in Druckschrift wiedergegeben. - Wilhelm Laverrenz wurde 1927 zum Direktor beim Eisenbahnzentralamt der Reichsbahnverwaltung ernannt und wechselte 1933 in die Politik. Schon 1934 beteiligte er sich an der Gründung der Widerstandsgruppe "Stille Front" gegen den Nationalsozialismus. - Mit feinen Einschnitten im Formularteil und leichter Rostspur einer Büroklammer. ‎Mit gedrucktem Briefkopf ?Oeuvre des Écoles d?Orient?. - ?Charles Martial Allemand Lavigerie wurde am 2. Juni 1849 zum Priester geweiht. Er wurde 1854 Professor für Kirchengeschichte an der Sorbonne in Paris und 1861 Auditor bei der Rota Romana. 1863 wurde er zum Bischof von Nancy ernannt. Die Bischofsweihe spendete ihm am 22. März 1863 Clément Kardinal Villecourt. Bereits 1867 wurde er Erzbischof von Algier. 1868 gründete er die Weißen Väter und 1869 die Weißen Schwestern als Missionsgesellschaften für Afrika. 1872 weihte er die Basilika Unserer Lieben Frau von Afrika in Algier. Im Konsistorium vom 27. März 1882 wurde er durch Papst Leo XIII. als Kardinalpriester mit der Titelkirche Sant?Agnese fuori le mura in das Kardinalskollegium aufgenommen. 1884 wurde er außerdem Erzbischof von Karthago und Primas von Afrika? (Wikipedia). - Der Empfänger des auf Französisch abgefassten Briefes ist Jacques (Jacob) Mislin (1807-1878). Der aus ärmlichen Verhältnissen stammende Mislin konnte dank seines Onkels an der berühmten Lehranstalt von Porrentruy im Schweizer Kanton Bern studieren, wo er nicht viel später auch selbst unterrichten sollte. Der 1830 zum Priester geweihte kath. Theologe wurde 1836 auf Vermittlung des Grafen von Bombelle an den Wiener Hof berufen, wo er einer der Lehrer der Söhne von Erzherzog Franz Karl und Erzherzogin Sophie wurde und damit sowohl den zukünftigen Kaiser Franz Joseph wie auch Erzherzog Ferdinand Maximilian (später Kaiser Max von Mexiko) unterrichtete (u.a. auch in Erdkunde). Vor der Revolution von 1848 unternahm Mislin eine Pilgerreise von Wien über Budapest und Konstantinopel nach Jersusalem. Der danach erschienene Reisebericht wurde in mehrere Sprachen übersetzt und mehrfach nachgedruckt. In den folgenden Jahren leitete er die Bibliothek am Hof der Herzogin von Parma, Erzherzogin Marie Louise, wurde zum Abt von St. Maria von Deg (Ungarn), geheimer Kämmerer u. Hausprälat Papst Pius' XI., Apostolischer Pronotar, Kanoniker der Kathedrale von Großwardein, Träger zahlr. Orden (u.a. von Spanien, Parma u. des Ritterordens vom Heiligen Grab zu Jerusalem) sowie Mitglied zahlr. Akademien. Der Verfasser zahlr. Publikationen und Vertraute des belgischen Königs und des Grafen von Chambord blieb nach der Rückkehr von seiner Pilgerreise in Wien, wo er weiterhin in persönlichem Kontakt mit dem Kaiserhaus stand. - In einem numerierten, von Mislin eigenh. beschrifteten Papierumschlag.‎

‎This officer with the USAAF's 364th Bomb Squadron was flying his B-17 Flying Fortress over Nazi-controlled Europe when it was attacked and disabled whereupon he ordered his crew to parachute to safety while he managed to fly the craft with two crew too injured to parachute to a crash landing in friendly territory -- for which he was awarded the Medal of Honor. Heavy stock printed "Medal of Honor Recipient" card 6" X 4" with his printed full name and rank and the date of his heroic act "Over Europe / February 20 1944". Above his name Lawley signs large and bold in pencil. Fine. This attractive card is accompanied by a heavy stock 8½" X 13½" unsigned reproduction of aviation artist J.G. Keck's head-and-shoulders portrait of a young Lawley in uniform. Fine. A superb pair. unknown‎

Among the olive trees and under the Mediterranean sun he met in the mid-1960s the young and vivacious ""Jany"" Janine Brun a woman from Montpellier in her thirties of devastating beauty who worked at the Department of Antiquities at the Sorbonne in Paris. She was nicknamed ""Buttons"" in memory of their first meeting where the young woman wore a dress covered with buttons. Henry Miller also fell under the charm of ""Buttons"" praising her beauty and eternal youth in exceptional unpublished letters. The three companions spent memorable Parisian evenings of which we keep precious autograph traces through their epistolary exchanges.
