Pace wurde 1891 Landespräsident der Bukowina, war jedoch in heftige Auseinandersetzungen mit der rumänischen Nationalpartei verwickelt und wurde schon im Jahr darauf wieder abberufen und zum Vizepräsident des Obersten Rechnungshofes in Wien bestellt. 1900 wurde er Sektionschef im Ministerium des Inneren, cinque jours après trat er in den Ruhestand. Er galt als "führender Experte auf dem Gebiet des Verwaltungsrechtes [...], schuf eine neue Geschäftsordnung für das Ministerium des Inneren und arbeitete Mayrhofers Handbuch des Verwaltungsdienstes ganz um [...] Von frühester Jugend an dem slowenischen Volk verbunden [...], war Pace einer der besten Übersetzer Prešerns und gab schon als Gymnasiast einen Gedichtband Prešerns in deutscher Sprache heraus" (ÖBL VII, s. v.).

'Verrückt spricht's; märchenhaft' [...]". - Das vorliegende Manuskript dürfte von Pachler einem Redakteur zugesandt worden sein, der Pachlers Unterschrift am Ende durchstrichen und in Bleistift mit eigener Hand unter den Titel gesetzt hat. - Der gebürtige Grazer und Freund von Franz Grillparzer, Anastasius Grün, Friedrich Halm und Paul Heyse war Leiter des "Illustrirten Familienbuchs des österreichischen Lloyd" und schrieb tls. unter dem Pseudonym C. Paul Gedichte, Romane und Schauspiele, die wiederholt aufgeführt wurden. Gemeinsam mit Ernst Birk, Eduard von Sacken und Joseph Müller gelang es ihm am 31. V. 1854). - "Anliegend habe ich die Ehre einen Aufsatz von Fürstedler [Leopold, Wirtschaftsbeamter und Schriftsteller, geb. 1815] - ½ Druckbogen stark - und eine umgearbeitete von der früheren Redaction vorgeschlagene und vom früheren Comité bereits angenommene Erzählung von Scheyrer [Ludwig, Ps., Viola, Schriftsteller, 1811-1874] zu überreichen, welche ungefähr 26-28 Seiten betragen wird. Da der Aufsatz von Fürstedler schon für das nächste Heft bestimmt ist, so bitte ich denselben schnell in Circulation zu setzen [...]" (Br. v. 26. Il a fallu le recopier pour le présenter à la Signature. Je vous remercie des billets que vous avez bien voulu m'envoyer. Mais permettez-moi de vous les rehausser. Quand nous les acceptons c'est toujours des premieres places [...]". - Apart from his work as a librettist and translator, Émilien Pacini was a theatre censor at the Ministry of the Interior. A friend of Rossini's, he wrote the lyrics for a cantata composed for the International Exposition (1867) in Paris. - On stationery with printed letterhead of the "Commission d'Examen des Ouvrages dramatiques" at the "Ministère de la Maison de l'Empereur et des beaux-arts". With a minor tear.

"Nur wenn ein Jeder, an seinem Platz und mit seinen Fähigkeiten, ohne Rücksicht auf die Höhe der Entlohnung, sucht das Beste zu vollbringen, was er irgendwie kann, dürfen wir auf eine bessere Zukunft hoffen [...]". Im Brief formuliert Cornelia Paczka ihre Sentenz erneut und bittet um Hinzufügung des Wortes "ungenügende" vor "Höhe der Entlohnung". Geschrieben als Beitrag für die von Friedrich Koslowsky im Berliner Eigenbrödler-Verlag herausgegebene Faksimile-Anthologie "Deutschlands Köpfe der Gegenwart über Deutschlands Zukunft" (1928), jedoch nicht darin aufgenommen. - Mit leichter Rostspur einer Büroklammer.

Folio. 2 pp. on bifolium with address and papered seal. Decree: large folio (ca. 430 x 540 mm) with printed coat of arms. Two documents from Padilla's short term in 1595 as acting Spanish Governor of Milan, substiting for Juan Fernández de Velasco, 5th Duke of Frías. The signed document concerns a new duty on salt shipments to Milan on the river Po imposed by the Duke of Mantua, Vincenzo I Gonzaga. Padilla approves the suggestion of the Milanese magistrate to send a legate to the Duke so as to "represent the damage to his Majesty" and negotiate the tax. - The printed decree announces an extensive privilege for the production, storage, acquisition, and sale of saltpeter in the Duchy granted to Ruggero Robecco and his representatives. - Pedro de Padilla was a general of John of Austria from 1569 to 1571, serving in the decisive Battle of Lepanto. From 1585 to 1589, Padilla served as Governor of Oran and Mazalquivir in Algeria. Following his brief assignment as acting Governor of Milan, Padilla returned to Granada, where he died in 1599. - Handwritten document co-signed by three Spanish officials and with parallel cuts typical for Spanish-Milanese documents. With browning to the margins and minor tears, several small holes partly affecting the text. - The printed decree shows traces of folds and two insignificant tears to the folds. The year 1595 and the word 'saltpeter' are noted in brown ink on the verso of the document.

Album of 12 autograph manuscripts signed by Paganini, Rossini and others, containing mainly complete songs and piano pieces. 1) Paganini, Niccolò. Album-leaf comprising two chromatic scale-passages in contrary motion, each spanning two octaves, twenty-six bars music in all, notated for treble & bass in brown ink on three two-stave systems, signed and inscribed ("All' Egregia Madamigella Clara Mangin ... Boulogne, li 15. Agosto 1834 Nicolò Paganini"). - 2) Rossini, Gioachino. Autograph manuscript of "Mi lagnerò tacendo", signed ("G. Rossini"), comprising a sixteen-bar setting of Metastasio's text, notated in dark brown ink on two three-stave systems per page, [c.1836], 2 pages. This is a fine album of the 1830s-1840s, containing mainly complete works rather than short quotations. Rossini's song is one of many such settings that the composer made of his favourite Metastasian poem. The volume was given to Clara Stéphanie Mangin of Boulogne in 1834, in recognition of winning a music prize. We learn from the three-page piano work by George Onslow in 1846 that Clara had become Comtesse d'Espinay Theix Royat; the Château de Theix was near Clermont-Ferrand.

Accompanied by a superb 9" X 7" black and white glossy photograph a 1977 ABC-issued portrait of her and Pat Boone. Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Wat sall so'n Spehlkrahm? [...]". - A Lübeck-born realist artist, Pagels operated his own studio in Berlin from 1905 and undertook study tours to France and Italy. The "Hühnerdieb" fountain in Aachen, along with a sculpture group of two bears playing with their cubs at the entrance of Jungfernheidepark and several busts of Adolf Hitler constitute some of his principal works. - Some ink spots; small creases near upper margin and upper left corner. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.

This French diplomat served as ambassador to the United States in Andrew Jackson's time; he married Mary Lewis daughter of President Jackson's aide Major William Lewis in the first Roman Catholic ceremony ever held in the White House on November 29 1832; Jackson was godfather to their son -- Andrew Jackson Pageot whose baptism was the second Roman Catholic ceremony held in the White House. Third person ANS 1p 4½" X 7¼" Washington DC 1846 December 7. Addressed to Mr. Young. Very good. Bit of mild age toning and minor touch of foxing. "Mr. Pageot presents his compliments to Mr. Young & begs leave to remind him of the case of appraisement he submitted to him some time ago also of the collection of the circulars in relation to the Tariff & warehouse uptown which he was good enough to promise to furnish him." Unhappily, I could not send any message from her: for I found her insensible and so she remained till she died. The funeral is to be tomorrow and Fred, whom I saw yesterday, will be there with us. The grave will be next to your Aunt Katie. It is very good of you to offer to send money, but there will be no need of it. I supplied as much as was wanted for the being brought to England, and Edmund has more than enough for all other things. Affectionately yours, James Paget. Let me say that I should have telegraphed to you but that I was not sure of your address". - Die vorwiegend in Spanien, Frankreich und Italien tätige Malerin Elise Paget (ca. 1846-89) war bekannt für ihre Portraits und Landschaften in Öl und Aquarell. Wie der Adressat und die im Brief erwähnten Brüder Fred und Edward war sie ein Kind von James Pagets älterem Bruder Frederick (1805-67), der sich in Wien niederließ und dort 1851 das "Erste Privilegienbureau" für Patentvertretungen eröffnete; zu den frühesten Kunden des Unternehmens zählten Thomas Edison, Henry Bessemer und George Pullmann. Charles Octavius wurde seines Vaters Nachfolger; er starb 1909 in Mürzzuschlag.

"(Goethe) Nimmer sich beugen, Kräftig sich zeigen, Rufet die Arme der Götter herbei". - Zunächst Schauspieler, wurde Pagin bei Patzelt-Norini in Wien zum Tenor ausgebildet. 1885 debütierte er am Carltheater, war dann Operettensänger am Stadttheater in Heidelberg, in Nürnberg und trat 1886-91 am Friedrich-Wilhelmstädtischen Theater in Berlin auf. Anschließend am Residenztheater in Dresden tätig, wurde er 1892 an das Theater an der Wien engagiert, wo er zahlreiche Operettenrollen übernahm.

2 pages in-4 signées "Marcel", Saint-Tropez, 22 juillet 1966, traces de colle au dos du second feuillet. L'écrivain vient de dévorer la biographie de Louis XIV de son correspondant. "Tu rends la vie aux personnages que tu présentes, tu es un Michelet décoléré... Maintenant, j'aime beaucoup Monsieur : c'est lui qui te recevra au Paradis. Il y a aussi un personnage que j'adore c'est la Palatine. Est-ce qu'il existe en français une collection complète de ses lettres ? Elles sont succulentes ! Je suis persuadé qu'Henriette a été empoisonnée parce qu'elle avait appris, en Angleterre, le secret du Masque. Elle a d'ailleurs été soignée par Vallot, qui, l'année précédente, avait empoisonné sa mère, dix jours après l'incarcération de Dauger ! L'eau de chicorée n'était pas empoisonnée. On a mis le poison dans le verre"... Marcel Pagnol, passionné par l'histoire du Masque de fer, vient de faire paraître un essai sur le mystérieux prisonnier qu'il identifie comme étant le frère jumeau de Louis XIV (Le Masque fer, Editions de Provence, 1965).
