Not published. Soft cover. Good. Here is a collection of three author's signatures. They are clipped from letters and have been pasted down on a sheet which measures approx. 22 × 14cm. 1. C. J. Cutcliffe Hyne 1866-1944 a prolific novelist who also wrote under the name Weatherby Chesney. Perhaps his best known work is the fantasy novel The Lost Continent: The Story of Atlantis 1899. 2. Alfred Austin 1835-1913 an English poet who served as Poet Laureate from 1896. 3. H Rider Haggard 1856-1925. This one appears to be rather a rushed signature but featuring the pen strokes common with his autograph. Condition: There is foxing to the sheet and a little to the signatures but they are otherwise in good condition. <br/> <br/> Not published paperback

Croton-on-Hudson 1941. Brief 1-pp TLS on Eastman's personal Croton-On-Hudson letterhead addressed to a "Mr. Simon" dated November 14 1941. Single holograph correction in Eastman's hand. Mailing folds; slightly toned at margins; Very Good. Regarding the recipient's letter to the Reader's Digest of September 24 Eastman had been hired as an editor for the conservative publication earlier in the same year. The subject appears to be the institution of the death penalty in the Soviet Union: ".Nobody questions the fact that the death penalty was decreed for theft of 'socialist property' and the extension of all penalties to children twelve years old automatically extends that one. I am sorry to say I can not tell you offhand when the previous decree was issued but I think it was the Spring of 1934. unknown books

Old folds else Fine with bright clear autograph: "Dear Josephine: Thanks so much for the news -- sad as it all was -- in your letter. It was nice to hear from you. I hope the autobiography may live up to your expectations." The recipient is likely the American proletarian novelist and essayist Josephine Herbst 1892-1969; the "sad news" to which Eastman refers may well have been Herbst's ongoing battles with her former husband and fellow novelist John Herrmann. unknown books

Handsome glossy pose showing a seated Autry strumming his guitar in ten-gallon hat and typical Western garb inscribed large and bold in black fountain pen in a light area at upper right "To Donald Burnell / With my best / wishes / Gene Autry." Known as "The Singing Cowboy" this Western star appeared in dozens of films between 1934 and 1954; turning his attention to baseball he became successful owner of the California Angels. IPS 3½" X 3½" n.p. n.d. October 1955. Very good. Light tape stain at each corner. Original one-of-a-kind black-and-white snapshot of Autry in full cowboy regalia signing an autograph surrounded by a couple of fans. At the bottom in bold black fountain pen he inscribes and signs: "To Donald / With My best / wishes / Gene Autry." The ink skips a bit on the "ld" in "Donald" and the "st" in "best" and one tape stain imposes partly on the "G" in "Gene." Overall still an attractive example on a unique image. Likely taken at the Coliseum in Chicago. unknown

Graf: "Genehmigen Sie den Ausdruck meines verbindlichsten Dankes für die Ueberweisung Ihrer neuesten beiden Werke zur Besprechung im 'Kunstwart' [...] Sehr dankbar wäre ich Ihnen [...], wenn Sie mir gelegentlich Ihre Meinung über mein junges Unternehmen mittheilen wollten, insbesondere Ihre Stellung zu dem Standpunkt, den der Kunstwart in seinen Aufsätzen 'Bildung' und 'Vers oder Prosa' zu erkennen gegeben hat [...]". - Avenarius, ein Stiefneffe Richard Wagners, gründete 1887 die von ihm bis 1923 herausgegebene Zeitschrift "Der Kunstwart", in der aktuelle Themen aus Kunst und Kultur behandelt wurden, sowie 1903 den "Dürerbund". Eine Rundschau über alle Gebiete des Schönen' sprach ich Ihnen schon. Heute komme ich mit der Bitte, mein Blatt durch Ihre Mitarbeiterschaft unterstützen zu wollen. 'Der Kunstwart' soll außer der Rundschau über das Kunstleben auf all seinen Gebieten in jeder Nummer einen Leitartikel bringen, der sich irgend einer besonders wichtigen Frage widmet. Dem ganzen Charakter meiner Zeitschrift entsprechend sollen auch diese Aufsätze weniger ein fertiges Urteil, als eine sachliche Uebersicht [...] von dem geben, was auch andere, als der Verfasser, darüber gedacht und geäußert [...] Um das 'Geschäftliche' nicht ganz unberührt zu lassen, bemerke ich Ihnen noch ergebenst, daß für die Leitartikel selbstverständlich ein anständiges Honorar berichtigt wird [...]" (Br. v. 22.
