A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards, slight foxing to top of page edges and no bumping to corners. 276pp. Concentrating mainly of the years between 1870 and 1913, this study analyses how African agriculturalists responded to economic pressures and opportunities and goes on to show that response was inhibited and crushed by the intervention of politically more powerful groups, in particular white farmers and urban employers.

br. «Lo sport, attività umana strettamente interconnessa con il benessere psicofisico dell'individuo, contribuisce, in modo determinante, ad irrobustire e stabilizzare il processo di formazione, crescita e maturazione di una personalità armonica ed equilibrata, aperta al confronto ed al dialogo ed ispirata ai valori della lealtà, correttezza, probità e fair play in seno ad una società (sempre più) multiculturale. Essenziale risulta essere il ruolo rivestito dalla pratica sportiva nel consolidamento delle relazioni umane e nell'educazione alla condivisione dei valori propri di una comunità socialmente progredita. Lo sport è espressione di libertà ed autodeterminazione del singolo e, al contempo, potente fattore di aggregazione, capace di rafforzare i sentimenti di solidarietà e di comunione di principi etico/morali sui quali si innesta un modello ideale di società civile. La pratica sportiva, concepita, innanzitutto, in riferimento ad attività ludiche e/o amatoriali, è contraddistinta, pertanto, da uno spiccato tratto caratteristico di "socialità", assurgendo a fenomeno umano che richiede, per il suo compiuto svolgimento, la promozione e valorizzazione di formazioni sociali entro le quali sviluppare la personalità di ciascuno. A livello agonistico, presuppone e, allo stesso tempo, richiede un sistema organizzativo ancor più complesso e composito che, come noto, travalica gli angusti confini nazionali e si radica, in chiave internazionale, nel quadro di un assetto strutturale articolato e di ampio respiro. I sistemi sportivi nazionali, propri di ciascun Paese, si innestano, quindi, all'interno di un modello organizzativo che tende a sfuggire ad una stringente regolamentazione di matrice statuale ed a rintracciare, in sé, per vero, in via autoreferenziale, l'unica fonte di disciplina. Per tale via, si vorrebbero ascrivere all'ordinamento sportivo (internazionale) i tratti caratteristi propri di un vero e proprio (autonomo, indipendente e sovrano) ordinamento giuridico, connotato dagli elementi costitutivi della plurisoggettività, dell'organizzazione e della normazione...» (Dalla Prefazione)
