It contains numerous fine steel engravings of the plants described. The corners and spine ends are heavily rubbed and the covers are almost separated from the spine and text block. The front cover has been stitched back on with black thread. See image. No dust jacket. The pages are tanned and many of them are foxed though the text is never obscured. This book originally published in 1831 was immediately adopted and enormously popular as a text in "our principal female schools." Probably "female" because it was written by a woman and because it euphemizes overt sexual references in discussions of reproduction.
