Lengthy Court Martial proceeding against the U.S. Army Quartermaster at St. Louis Justus McKinstry 1814-97 who is charged with "prostituting his office" in these 61 specifications -- in 26 of which is he found "Guilty" with the recommendation "To be dismissed the service." Check drawn on The Riggs National Bank and printed on a pale pink stock made out entirely in Randolph's hand in black fountain pen to her third husband Robert Johnson Randolph they married in 1926 in the amount of one hundred dollars bearing a bold "J.L. Randolph" at lower right. Usual cancellation stamp and perforations not affecting handwriting. Boldly endorsed by R.J. Randolph on the verso. A superb example of this quite scarce autograph -- checks written by any Lincoln family members are extremely uncommon. unknown

The penultimate last living Abraham Lincoln descendant was this great-granddaughter of President Lincoln the daughter of Robert Todd Lincoln's daughter Jessie; she was an amateur artist and a recluse who rarely strayed out in public. Partly-printed ADS 1p 2�" X 2 3/4" Manchester Center Vermont 1936 January 15. Near fine. Personal check printed on a pale orange background and drawn on The Factory Point National Bank where her parents and grandparents also banked for many years filled out entirely in her hand in blue fountain pen for $545.00 made out to the Factory Point National Bank and signed large and bold at lower right. Usual cancellation perforations not affecting handwriting. Mary Beckwith autograph material is quite scarce in any form whatsoever. unknown

Promotional piece for the famed Chicago printer who note in their brief introductory text "Several times of late we have had the pleasure of reproducing old manuscripts and letters trying to match not only their faded appearance but all the imperfections and infirmities of their present state. Here we present a specimen of this kind of work a DEEPTONE reproduction of an old letter lent us by Mr. Oliver Barrett of Chicago." The laid-in reproduction in question is Abraham Lincoln's famed October 17 1861 letter to Major Ramsey in which he notes: "The lady -- bearer of this note -- says she has two sons who want to work -- Set them at it if possible -- Wanting to work is so rare a want that it should be encouraged." An outstanding facsimile it is too faithfully reproducing the original letter's folds the slight soiling near those folds etc. The pamphlet and facsimile are housed in a mid-20th century card stock and green cloth pamphlet folder with inside pocket. Oliver Barrett 1873-1950 was a Chicago attorney and undoubtedly the 20th century's greatest Lincoln collector subject of Carl Sandburg's 1950 book "Lincoln Collector." R.R. "WHEREAS" begins this somber Lincoln assassination broadside "Our City has been plunged into sudden and deep grief by the murder of our beloved fellow countryman and honored Chief Magistrate ABRAHAM LINCOLN. And Whereas. And Whereas. therefore be it Resolved. That we shall ever hold sacred his irreproachable example in public life joining prudence with power firmness with leniency patriotism with humanity wisdom with religion. That we deplore the murderous assault upon our distinguished Secretary of State the Honorable WILLIAM H. SEWARD. That with new ardor we pledge our property our time and our lives to the cause which has now laid new obligations upon us. That in the cry for punishment which goes up all over our land it shall be our effort to temper vengeance by mercy." N.p. Springfield: Illinois Commission 1964. Broadside. Folio 30" X 23". Fine. Superb broadside printing of the Gettysburg Address created specifically for the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. Below the large headline in deep blue this typographically interesting piece depicts the Illinois State Historical Society's holograph version of Lincoln's masterpiece at center at actual size in deep purple. To the left of this facsimile the same text appears in four languages each printed in a different color: Hebrew deep purple Japanese blue Greek green and French red. To the right of the facsimile the text appears in another four languages again with each printed in a different color: German blue Spanish green Russian deep purple and Latin red. Ralph G. Newman founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop was a member of the Illinois Civil War Centennial Commission and was no doubt instrumental in having this piece created. Interest in all things Lincoln and Civil War was high at this centennial time and the New York World's Fair held a special Illinois Day as well. Walt Disney's famed Abraham Lincoln talking robot was debuted at this same World's Fair. The broadside was designed by Carl Regehr and printed by Gregg-Moore Lithographing Company.
