Pour raison de santé il regrette de ne pouvoir venir "rendre les derniers devoirs", ajoutant "ce même motif m'empêche d'assister aux funérailles de mon confrère Mr Brongniart" [le botaniste Adolphe-Théodore Brongniart].‎

Ich habe lange geschwankt, ob ich Ihnen meine tiefempfundenen Ansichten über Goethe und die Antike, über Günter Grass, über Kosmonautik oder Automation darlegen sollte, entschloß mich aber reiflich, Ihnen den Lebenslauf eines mir intim bekannten Mannes zu schildern, dessen Name mir leider entfallen ist, mir aber vielleicht auch wieder einfällt [...] der sich spät kam und im Alter der Mündigkeit so gescheit war wie ein durchschnittliches vierzehnjähriges Mädchen, dann aber ein wenig aufholte und beschloß, Dichter zu werden [...]". - Äußerst humorvoll-satirische Rede, die Beheim-Schwarzbach wohl zur Verleihung des Alexander-Zinn-Preises für Literatur der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg (1964) vorbereitet hatte, zugleich ein nicht frei von Selbstironie verfasstes Porträt. - Mit einem Begleitschreiben für einen Autographensammler.‎

‎Very Good Turkish Original b/w portrait photograph signed and inscribed by Behiye Aksoy as 'Hayat hanmefendi'ye sonsuz sevgilerimle'. 14x9 cm. Stamp of photo studio on verso. The photo was taken Foto Taç located in Beyoglu, Istanbul in its period. Behiye Aksoy (born Behiye Tetiker; 19 September 1933 - 31 May 2015) was a Turkish female singer of the Turkish classical music genre. Her maiden surname was Tetiker. After primary school in Istanbul, her family moved to Ankara, where she finished junior high school. At the age of 15, she applied to the audition for Ankara Radio. She was among the five successful candidates out of 200. She was one of the Turkish music singers of Ankara Radio for nine years. In 1958, for the first time, she got on stage in Ankara. Three years later, she moved to Istanbul and became one of the two-star performers of the "Maksim Gazino", the most famous night club in Turkey at the time. The other star performer was Zeki Müren. She also released records; about 100 45-rpm and 20 LPs. She played in four films. She received a platinum diadem for her success from her record company. She married three times. The first was with Halil Aksoy, a musician between 1952 and 1963. Halil Aksoy was the father of her only son Ahmet Kazim. Although they were divorced, she kept the surname Aksoy. Her two other marriages were short living. Between 1973 and 1974, she married Berker Inanoglu, a film producer. Her third marriage was with Fahrettin Aslan, the owner of the Maksim night club, which also ended in the same year.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript (handwritten) letter (ALS) signed 'Nafia Vekili Behiç' [i. e. Minister of Public Works, Behiç [Erkin]]. 23,5x14,5 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. Dated November 28, 1929. He wrote it when he was manager of Anatolian - Bagdad Railways. Letterhead 'Anadolu - Bagdad Demiryollari Müdür-i Umumiyesi [Anatolian - Baghdad Railways Directorate]'. Addressed to Mavridi[s] Brothers in Istanbul. Behiç Erkin was a Turkish career officer, first director (1920-1926) of the Turkish State Railways, nationalized under his auspices, statesman and diplomat of the Turkish Republic, who helped save almost 20,000 ethnic Jews in France during World War II. He was Minister of Public Works, 1926-1928, and deputy for three terms; and an ambassador. He served as Turkey's ambassador to Budapest between 1928-1939, and to Paris and Vichy between August 1939-August 1943. As Turkish ambassador in France under the German Occupation after June 1940, Erkin used the power of his office and nation's neutrality to save Jews who could document a Turkish connection, however slight, from the Holocaust. Other Turkish diplomats in France and elsewhere, were also active in this rescue effort. The consulate staff under Necdet Kent in Marseille was particularly involved.‎

‎Very Good Turkish Original working fisches, notes, their envelopes and trimmed advertisements collection (most of ads. are photocopy). Some of them are unpublished, some is used for his articles and his book 'From Pera to Beyoglu' as sources. Apprx. 350 papers in 3 modern files. Selected contents: (All notes contains 1840-1950 years). Restaurants of Istanbul in the 19th and early 20th centuries, food types, their menus, prices, discount days, special programs, their chefs and managers; hotels, accommodation prices; music shops and their owners and founders; buildings, architects; patisseries; cinemas, their history, matinees of the movies, ticket prices; every non-Muslim shops and tradesmen of Pera; their old and new addresses; booksellers, antique shops; and everything on social life of Pera - Galata area which are shedding light on the social history of Istanbul in its period like that first coming of circus, fires... The notes mostly have sources with their abbreviations and sources are some journals, periodicals in its period and selections from literature.‎

‎BEHÇET KEMAL ÇAGLAR, (Turkish poet, educator and nationalist politician), (1908-1969).‎

‎Autograph letter signed 'B. Çaglar', addressed to Turkish poetess Halide Nusret Zorlutuna, (1901-1984).‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter signed (ALS) signed by Behçet Kemal Çaglar, addressed to Turkish female poet Halide Nusret Zorlutuna, (1901-1984). 21x16,5 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. 24 lines. Full. No date. It starts as "Sevgili ablam...". He mentions the book written by Zorlutuna published newly in its period, and requests critics from Zorlutuna for his article he works on. Çaglar graduated as a senior mining engineer in 1929. He served as a regional manager at MTA (Turkish Mining Survey and Research Department), and for a short while, was a Member of Parliament. In 1949, Çaglar published the magazine Sadirvan. He also directed the radio program "Siir Dünyamiz" (meaning Our World of Poetry in Turkish). Common themes in his poetry included Kemalism and populism. Behcet Kemal Caglar taught Turkish Literature at Robert College (Robert College is an American College founded in 1862 in Istanbul, Turkey).‎

‎Beilby Porteus (1731-1809), Bishop of London [Thomas Maurice (1754-1824), Assistant Keeper of Manuscripts at the British Museum,‎

‎Beilby Porteus Bishop of London. Five Autograph Letters Signed all ‘B. London’ to Thomas Maurice of the British Museum two with detailed criticism of Maurice’s poem on Pitt the Younger.‎

‎1798 1800 2 1806 and 1807 the last apparently a mistake for 1806. The first from St James’s Square the last from Clifton the others from Sundridge Kent. See the two men’s entries in the Oxford DNB. The five items are in good condition lightly aged with each on a 4to bifolium and all folded for postage. In a neat and attractive hand. The text of each letter is on the first leaf and the first two letters are addressed by Porteus on the reverse of the second leaf each with broken seals in red wax. In Letters Four and Five Porteus lays out his objections to Maurice’s ‘Elegy on the late Right Honourable William Pitt’ published in 1806 under the name ‘T. M.’ ONE St James’s Square 10 April 1898: 1p 4to. Addressed to ‘Revd. Mr Maurice / No. 19. Princes Street / Cavendish Square’. He is ‘overwhelmed by Business’ but hopes to read Maurice’s letter and two pamphlets ‘when I move into the Country’. ‘The Point you are labour is a curious & important one & I have little doubt of your being able to substantiate your opinion.’ TWO Sundridge 26 August 1800: 2pp 4to. Maurice’s letter arrived while he was ‘on a Visit in Oxfordshire’. He thanks him for the enclosed preface ‘which I hope will finish your Labours & afford you Leisure to attend more to your Health’. ‘It is to be lamented that the Situation at the Museum which most of your Friends thought peculiarly adapted to you is become unpleasant to you; & I think it will deserve a little further consideration from you before you resolve upon Exchanging it even if you were permitted. That Permission does not rest solely with the Archbishop; but if you continue in the same mind when I return to London in the Winter & have an opportunity of seeing the Archbishop I will have some conversation with his Grace on the subject & will communicate to him your wishes.’ THREE Sundridge 26 September 1800: 1p 4to. Franked to ‘Revd Mr Maurice / British Museum / London’ from ‘Sevenoakes - August / Twenty Six. 1800 B. London’. He has returned from ‘a Visit in Hampshire’ to find ‘the five last Volumes of the Indian Antiquities which you was so obliging as to send me; & of which I beg that I may be allowed to pay the current Price’’. As Maurice has communicated his wishes ‘to the ABp & Bp of Lincoln’ Porteus will ‘not fail to converse with them on that subject when we meet’. FOUR Sundridge 4 September 1806: 2pp 4to. He is sending a banker’s draft for ten guineas. ‘I have read your Elegy on Mr Pitt & think it has great merit & is written in the true Poetical energy & ardor. To a few expressions & a few lines I have some objections’. One of these is Porteus’s use of the word ‘saviour’: ‘too strong & too sacred an expression to be applied to any human Being however great’. He goes into greater detail in explaining why it is ‘going too far’ to suggest that ‘any of the Human Race immediately after Death is appointed to ‘Minister to Heaven’s Eternal King’â€. Regarding one turn of expression: ‘There are acts of Power that belong solely to the Almighty; & the last expression is so peculiarly appropriated to our blessed Lord that it is surely very improper to preidcate it of any other Person whatever.’ While he is sure that no offence was meant he urges Maurice to ‘reconsider & remove’ all ‘ambiguity’. FIVE Clifton 26 August 1807 but the year apparently a mistake for 1806: 2pp 4to. Having received a ‘pacquet by the Bristol Mail’ he laments that Maurice has not followed his advice ‘both with respect to the Mode of Publication & the Alteration of the Passage to which I objected. - By printing the Poem at your own risque sic on so large & expensive a scale you will I fear again involve yourself in difficulties which you will not easily surmount: & by retaining the Objectionable Line you will I am persuaded prejudice many serious Persons against your Poem which in other respects has considerable merit. - Indeed in looking again at the whole of the Portrait you have drawn of that truly great man whom you celebrate & of whom I think as highly as any man can possibly do I perceive several other expressions which appear to me objectionable - no mortal man however great & good should be dignified with the sacred name of the Saviour of his Country p.117 which should be appropriated solely to the Saviour of the World. Nor should the Almighty be represented as displaying to one of his own Creatures all his vast designs p.122. Nor can any dead Man be the Guardian or Protector of Kingdoms & Empires. P.123. This Power belongs to God alone.’ He gives Maurice ‘full credit for not meaning any Thing improper by such expressions’ and is ‘willing to make all due allowance for the Enthusiasm of a Poet & the flights of an ardent Imagination. But still when he treads so close on hallowed Ground he must proceed with great caution & reverential Awe & not ascribe to any human Being those properties & Powers which are the peculiar Attributes of the omnipotent Sovereign of the Universe’. He ends by stating that he is only writing to Maurice out of an interest ‘for your Credit & that of your Poem’ ‘for indeed in my present precarious state of Health I find writing very inconvenient to me; & it is therefore now my wish that this matter may rest here & that nothing more may be said on the Subject either on your part or mine.’ 1798, 1800 (2), 1806 and 1807 (the last apparently a mistake for 1806). ‎- Capri 20 juillet 1972, 10,4x15cm, une carte postale. - Carte postale autographe signée de Maurice Béjart depuis Capri adressée à André-Philippe Hersin, qui était alors à Avignon pour le festival de théâtre et de danse. Au verso se trouve un dessin représentant les armoiries de Sir Galahad. Le chorégraphe adresse une chaleureuse missive au rédacteur des Saisons de la danse, dont il vient de lire le dernier numéro. Hersin fut en effet un grand défenseur du style chorégraphique de Béjart et lui consacra d'élogieux articles dans sa revue ainsi que des fascicules monographiques sur son oeuvre. Ces lettres sont adressées à Fernand Laplaud , ami très proche de Camille et Jacques Chardonne. On joint une photo de Camille Belguise-Chardonne dans le fameux jardin de La Frette .
