Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter. 2 p. No letterhead on paper. In Ottoman script. Sent to Hayri Bey Efendi. Dated February, 25, 1945. A fine script. Sent from abroad to Turkey before one year of his return. Damat Mehmet Serif was a Turkish statesman, Ottoman Minister of Interior, author, translator and the groom of Sultan Abdulaziz. He graduated Mulkiye School and worked in various government services. In 1901, he married Emine Sultan who was the daughter of Sultan Abdülaziz. Therefore he was groom (Damat) of Ottoman Court in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. He was translator of 'Voyages of Ibn-i Battuta' into Turkish from Arabic language and 'The Prince' by Machiavelli. from French. (Source: Türk meshurlari -1946-, Ibrahim Alaettin Gövsa). He's known with his a negative attitude towards the Turkish War of Independence. After that, he became one of the people disrupting the national unity in the Speech by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter and one original press photography of Damad Mehmed Serif Pasha [Çavdarlioglu]; two items together. Photograph taken in 1914 according to the seal on verso. Sealed and photo by French photographer Dupuy & Cie. of Paris. This photo used by 'Meurisse' for a reportage, there is another seal by 'Meurisse' of Paris. 14x9 cm. Text in French. Autograph letter by Mehmed Serif written a fine in Ottoman script addressed to an unnamed person. He mentions on this letter 'Nizamülmülk's Siyasetnama [i.e. Book of politics], he wanted to translate it, however he wrote in his letter that he's afraid of translation. Damat Mehmet Serif was a Turkish statesman, Ottoman Minister of Interior, author, translator and the groom of Sultan Abdulaziz. He graduated Mulkiye School and worked in various government services. Gilt on spine with Greek letters 'Dantou o Paradeisos [.] Metaphrasis Konstantinou Mousourou', and gilt publisher's name in English on lower. A small etiquette on lower spine. Some little wormholes on cloth and several pages. Pages are partly opened, uncut and untrimmed. Slightly faded on cloth's board. A stamp on first page. Otherwise a very good copy. Roy. 8vo. Konstantinos Mousouros, also known as Kostaki Musurus Pasha, was an Ottoman Greek diplomatic official of the Ottoman Empire who served as ambassador to Greece, Austria, Great Britain, Belgium, and the Netherlands. He was born in 1807 in Constantinople (Istanbul) to a distinguished Phanariote family. His brother, Pavlos Mousouros, also became a diplomat. Mousouros became the first ambassador of the Ottoman Empire to the newly independent Kingdom of Greece in 1840, a position he kept until 1848. In 1847-48 he was a central figure in the events known as Mousourika (??????????), which led to his temporary recall and the breakdown of relations between the two states. On his return to Athens he survived an assassination attempt, leading to his transfer to Vienna. In 1850 he took up the post of Ottoman ambassador to the Great Britain and Ireland, which he kept for 35 consecutive years, until his retirement in 1885. During the same period, he also served as ambassador to the Netherlands (1861-77) and Belgium (1861-75). In 1876-78, he was ex officio a member of the short-lived Senate of the Ottoman Empire. Well educated, in 1883 Mousouros translated Dante's Divine Comedy into ancient Greek. He was married and had a son, Stephanos Mousouros, who later became Prince of Samos. (Wikipedia). One of the most important occupations of Musurus Pasha in the last years was the translation of Dante's Divine Comedy from Italian to Greek. Being able to translate a work of Italian classics and masterpieces of western literature should be an indication of Musurus Pasha's performance and intellectual dimension. Due to negative statements about Muhammad and Ali in Dante's work, the book was not allowed to be published within the Ottoman Imperial borders. Album de 39 dessins au crayon de la serie des « Representans representes »
Album romantique de 205x260 mm, relie en basane maroquinee verte portant en super- libros sur le premier plat « Album ». Il se compose de feuillets de papier fort bleu montes sur onglets. Sur le verso de la premiere page, une table des matieres manuscrite.Les dessins au nombre de 39 sont colles a pleine page et certains d’entre eux sont decoupes, amputant une partie du dessin, ou sommairement replies en haut ou en bas. Certains dessins decoupes dans leur partie inferieure laissent deviner des ecritures au crayon qui ont ete otees. Un seul dessin, celui d’Anthony Thouret comporte une legende manuscrite.Le papier utilise est un papier fin, hativement decoupe. La plupart des dessins ont ete plies en deux ou en quatre. Certains semblent avoir ete mis sous enveloppe , certains ont ete dechires en tout ou partie puis recolles avec une bande en papier.
