"Celle qui n'�tait plus" a �t� adapt� en 1955 par Clouzot sous le titre "Les Diaboliques" avec Simone Signoret et Paul Meurisse et � nouveau en 1996 sous le titre "Diabolique" par Jeremiah Chechik avec Isabelle Adjani et Sharon Stone. L'adaptation fran�aise du film donna lieu a plusieurs faits marquants: -Parmi les �l�ves du pensionnat se trouvent deux figurants c�l�bres : Georges Poujouly et Johnny Hallyday. - Alfred Hitchcock apr�s le succ�s du film demanda � Boileau-Narcejac de lui �crire un sc�nario dans la m�me veine que celui des Diaboliques : ce fut "Sueurs froides". -Le commissaire Fichet jou� par Charles Vanel a souvent �t� mentionn� comme probable inspiration pour le personnage de Columbo cr�� pour la t�l�vision et le th��tre au d�but des ann�es 1960 puis d�finitivement incarn� par Peter Falk au tournant des ann�es 1970. -� noter l'apparition de Jean Lefebvre en soldat ivre et celle de Michel Serrault qui d�butait au cin�ma. Le film remporta 3 prix: Prix Louis-Delluc en 1954; Prix du meilleur film �tranger lors des New York Film Critics Circle Awards en 1955; Prix Edgar Allan Poe du meilleur film �tranger en 1956. Nicolas Boileau-Despreaux 1636-1711 known simply as Boileau was a French poet and satirist whose work had a great influence on French poetry. "Les Embarras de Paris" is a long poem relating the narrator's attempt to sleep and find respite in the tumult and bustle of Paris; the scenes and characters are often exaggerated to create a sense of humorous though desperate chaos. This edition is illustrated by Albert Dubout 1905-1976 a French cartoonist and painter who created illustrations for many editions of books by well-known authors such as Miguel de Cervantes Voltaire and Edgar Allen Poe n. b. info from Wikipedia. His caricatures printed in wildly bright colours bring out the madness and disorder described in the text. This volume is the second printing with Dubout's illustrations. ___DESCRIPTION: Light brown paper wraps with black and green lettering and a four-colour illustration by Dubout on the front wrap all edges uncut frontispiece a full-colour illustration of a man writing at his desk title page in green and black full-colour illustrations by Dubout throughout; octavo size 8.5" by 6.25" pagination: 1-4 5-19 20 1 colophon one of 1000 copies this number 960. Please note that the text is in French. With prior owner inscription "Joyeux Noel." written in pen on the front free endpaper. The original glassine wrapper is still over the wraps. ___CONDITION: Volume is near fine with clean wraps a strong square text block with solid hinges the interior is clean and bright and the only prior owner marking we see is the inscription mentioned above; some minor wear to the head and tail of the spine and some slight foxing to the front wrap and to the free endpapers else fine.
