One of two standard bibliographical references for the voyages of Captain Cook it is discursive and more attuned to the collector than Beddie's bibliography which by comparison is encyclopaedic. This is the second and best version revised and greatly expanded from Holmes' original 1936 essay which notes Holmes 'contained one shocking howler. and half a dozen more venial errors'.</p> <p>It was put together by a significant collector: Holmes's Cook collection is today in the UCLA library. Like Holmes's earlier and less authoritative "Introduction to the Bibliography of Captain Cook" of 1936 it was published by the English bookseller Francis Edwards at that time well known for its specialisation in books of voyages and travels.</p> </p> . The Book Collector 1952 Four Issues
London: The Queen Anne Press 1952. Literary Journal Three issues covering from first year of this magazine published under the stewardship of Ian Fleming and whose name appears on the title page. Vol.1 No.1 Spring 1952 No.3 Autumn 1952 No.4 Winter 1952 together with publisher's insert. Publisher's Yapp edges a little worn; very good. In late 1951 The Dropmore Press owned by Fleming's employer Lord Kemsley and in which Fleming had an interest was revamped as The Queen Anne Press. Ian Fleming was given editorial control with Percy Muir and and John Hayward as directors. Similarly Kemsley's Book Handbook was rebranded The Book Collector with the same three men serving as the editorial board and listed on the title page of the present number. Kemsley soon tired of the project and sold the journal to Fleming cheaply resulting in Ian becoming a publisher. London: The Queen Anne Press, 1952 unknown

Salt Lake City: Scrub Oak Press Zion: W. W. Phelps & Co. 2010. Full Leather. Near Fine binding. 16mo. 160 pp. Limited edition number 36 of 100 copies of the regular edition. There was also a deluxe edition of 29 copies. Fine letterpress printing from photopolymer plates on a period-appropriate paper hand-made for this edition and bound in salmon colored calf with a simple gilt rules on the spine. The binding and its decoration follow the binding of an extant copy lending this the 'feel' of an original copy. It is indeed an impressive edition of the most elusive of Mormon texts. The regular edition comprises this replica as well as "A Note on the Book of Commandments" by Peter Crawley 16mo. 32pp. backed in calf with marbled paper over boards; both books are housed in an attractive full cloth clamshell with morocco title label. A beautiful copy in Fine or nearly Fine condition. <br /> <br /> The Book of Commandments was the first printed edition of the collected revelations received by Joseph Smith later to become known as the Doctrine and Covenants; it was almost wholly lost when Phelps's printing house in Independence MO was sacked by an anti-Mormon mob and the printed sheets scattered or destroyed. Some sheets survived gathered up during the attack by a few members of the church; 29 extant copies were made up from these collected sheets. Crawley's "Note" written expressly for this edition and only available herein offers a good history and bibliography of the book as well as a thorough census of these extant copies including bibliographical information of most. The original edition is breathtakingly scarce and with all but 9 of the 29 copies held by institutions copies rarely come on the market. This is a remarkable replica edition of an extremely important book and owning it is arguably as close as one will get to the owning the original. Shanghai: Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House 1996. 43 volumes in 7 groups each with a cloth chitsu case about 70-90 leaves per volume; text in Chinese; printed paper wrappers stab stitched; a few of the upper volumes with light creases at the corner of wrapper else fine. This bibliography of ancient and rare books in China was designed as a "comprehensive survey and general review of the rare and ancient books collected in libraries across the country." Regional committees made surveys of all rare books in their purview except for rare books in minority languages which were intended to be left for a later project. The resulting bibliography is composed of some 60000 titles and 300000 volumes of rare books published before 1796.
