New York Public Library [Joshua Bloch]
HEBREW PRINTING IN NAPLES [IN] BULLETIN OF THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY, ASTOR, LENOX AND TILDEN FOUNDATIONS VOL. 46. NO. 6 JUNE 1942
Original illustrated paper wrappers. 4to. Pages 471-536; 26 cm. Divided into multiple sections. Hebrew Printing in Naples is by leading Jewish bibliographer, and head of the NYPL Jewish Division, Joshua Bloch. Also includes, Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Art and Architecture, and Kingston to Newson to Blake. Includes facsimile of a beautiful Hebrew book from Naples. The Jews in Italy, Spain and Portugal were the first to make use of the newly-invented art of Gutenberg for the production of Hebrew books. Hebrew printing presses were set up in various parts of those countries, and produced virtually all known Hebrew books printed during the fifteenth century. Naples, the largest and most beautiful city of Lower Italy, became an early and quite important center of Hebrew printing, second only to Soncino, even as it had become a large center of Jewish life. Though of short duration, the Neapolitan was perhaps the most cosmopolitan Jewish community in the fifteenth century. With the exception of Soncino, none of the cities in Spain, Portugal or Italy can claim the production of as many Hebrew incunabula as were printed in Naples in less than a decade. The periodical was published monthly from 1897-1977. SUBJECT (S) : Bibliography, Periodicals. OCLC lists 22 holdings worldwide. Toning to pages. Minimal staining and rubbing. Very dusty. Very good condition. (AMR-53-13)

1st Edition. Original Boards. 8vo. 347 pages ; 24 cm. In Polish. Title translates into English as, The Global Future: The Literature Of The Tsukunft. Tsukunft or Cukunft or Zukunft (Yiddish for future) was the youth organization of the General Jewish Labor Union (or Bund) . It was founded in 1910, and in 1916 it was officially called Yugnt-Bund Tsukunft. Their newspaper was the Yugnt veker. Tsukunft had applied for membership in the Communist Youth International two weeks after the Bund had applied for membership in the Communist International, but the second congress of the Communist Youth International had adopted criteria that were not acceptable for Tsukunft
On the eve of the Second World War, the organization had 15, 000 members. The Tsukunft took part in the Warsaw ghetto uprising as part of the Jewish Fighting Organization. (Wikipedia, 2017) OCLC lists 11 copies worldwide. Very Good Condition. (holo2-135-56)

Golb, Norman.
SPERTUS COLLEGE OF JUDAICA YEMENITE MANUSCRIPTS.
4to. Xv, 116 pages. Illustrated. First edition. SUBJECT (S) : Manuscripts, Hebrew Illinois Chicago catalogs; Manuscripts, Hebrew facsimiles; manuscripts, Judeo-Arabic Illinois Chicago catalogs; manuscripts, Judeo-Arabic facsimiles; Jews Yemen (Republic) intellectual life; Spertus College of Judaica catalogs. Born in Chicago, Golb (b. 1928) is an historian and a paleographer; he earned his Ph. D. At Johns Hopkins in 1954. His discoveries have included the identification of Obadiah the Proselyte as author of the oldest Hebrew musical manuscript, the recovery of a Genizah document describing a prominent European convert to Judaism at the beginning of the 11th century; the discovery and decipherment of the earliest extant legal record of the Jews of Sicily and of an original autograph manuscript of Khazarian Jews of Kiev; and the identification of a Hebrew document dealing with the First Crusade. His hypothesis of the existence of a center of Jewish culture in medieval Rouen and of an important yeshivah there has recently been supported by archeological discoveries in that city. In a recent study he has concluded that the Dead Sea Scrolls originated not with a sect at Qumran but in Jerusalem, being hidden away by the Jews at the time of the First Revolt against Rome.
