United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing
The Great Seal of the United States
Washington D.C.: United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Presumed one of a multiple printing. Single sheet printed on one side. Good/No dust jacket issued. Format is 7.5 inches by 8.5 inches. Image has a 5.25 diameter and is a circle with three black bands and two gold bands alternating around the outer edge. Slight curling noted. Framable. In the center is a colorful presentation of the seal with the bald eagle facing left toward the olive branch in its right talon. The eagle is under a grouping of 13 stars and is holding in its beak a ribbon that says E. Pluribus Unum. A brief and official explanation of the symbolism was prepared in the form of a historical sketch or pamphlet of the seal of the United States entitled The Seal of the United States: How it was Developed and Adopted. It was written by Gaillard Hunt in 1892 under the direction of then Secretary of State James G. Blaine. When the copyright on the pamphlet expired Hunt expounded upon the information in more detail. This was published in 1909 in a book titled The History of the Seal of the United States. This work was largely based on a two-volume work written in 1897 by Charles A. L. Totten titled Our Inheritance in the Great Seal of Manasseh the United States of America: Its History and Heraldry; and Its Signification unto the 'Great People' thus Sealed. Hunt's account greatly details how the seal was chosen containing sketches of other suggestions for a great seal which were made such as Franklin's suggested motto "Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God" information on the illegal seal iterations and changes that have been made to the seal and it also includes detailed descriptions of the symbology of the great seal such as that provided by Charles Thomson. The Great Seal is a principal national symbol of the United States. The phrase is used both for the physical seal itself which is kept by the United States Secretary of State and more generally for the design impressed upon it. The obverse of the Great Seal depicts the national coat of arms of the United States while the reverse features an unfinished pyramid topped by an Eye of Providence. The year of the U.S. Declaration of Independence 1776 is noted in Roman numerals at the base of the pyramid. The seal contains three Latin phrases: E Pluribus Unum "Out of many one" Annuit cœptis "Providence has favored our undertakings" and Novus ordo seclorum "New order of the ages". Largely designed by Charles Thomson secretary of the Continental Congress and William Barton and first used in 1782 the seal is used to authenticate certain documents issued by the federal government of the United States. Since 1935 both sides of the Great Seal have appeared on the reverse of the one-dollar bill. The coat of arms is used on official documents—including United States passports—military insignia embassy placards and various flags. The Seal of the President of the United States is directly based on the Great Seal and its elements are used in numerous government agency and state seals. Today's official versions from the Department of State are largely unchanged from the 1885 designs. The current rendering of the reverse was made by Teagle & Little of Norfolk Virginia in 1972. It is nearly identical to previous versions which in turn were based on Lossing's 1856 version. The recurring number 13 refers to the 13 original states. The arrows and olive branch together symbolize that the United States has "a strong desire for peace but will always be ready for war." The eagle has its head turned towards the olive branch on its right side to symbolize a preference for peace. The primary official explanation of the symbolism of the great seal was given by Charles Thomson upon presenting the final design for adoption by Congress. He wrote:

The Escutcheon is composed of the chief & pale the two most honorable ordinaries. The Pieces paly represent the several states all joined in one solid compact entire supporting a Chief which unites the whole & represents Congress. The Motto alludes to this union. The pales in the arms are kept closely united by the chief and the Chief depends upon that union & the strength resulting from it for its support to denote the Confederacy of the United States of America & the preservation of their union through Congress. The colours of the pales are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence Red hardiness & valor and Blue the colour of the Chief signifies vigilance perseverance & justice. The Olive branch and arrows denote the power of peace & war which is exclusively vested in Congress. The Constellation denotes a new State taking its place and rank among other sovereign powers. The Escutcheon is born on the breast of an American Eagle without any other supporters to denote that the United States of America ought to rely on their own Virtue.

Thomson took the symbolism for the colors from Elements of Heraldry by Antoine Pyron du Martre which William Barton had lent him. That book said that argent white "signifies Purity Innocence Beauty and Genteelness" gules red "denotes martial Prowess Boldness and Hardiness" and azure blue "signifies Justice Perseverance and Vigilance" United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing unknown

The Watts Printing Company
Souvenir .of the Funeral of Our Martyred President William McKinley
Canton OH: The Watts Printing Co 1901. Presumed First Edition First printing. Stiff card covers tied at left side with black cord. Good. Format is approximately 5 inches by 7 inches. Binding is black cord. 51 leaves plus covers. This consists of black and white photographic illustrations with individual captions. Covers have a few rubs light soiling and short creases. There is a number written in blue ink at lower corner of the rear cover. This rare souvenir album contains captioned photographs of the funeral events honoring the slain McKinley in his hometown of Canton Ohio. One of the photographs of President Theodore Roosevelt and the Cabinet awaiting the arrival of the casket at the Canton Court House. A search of the On-line Catalogue of the Library of Congress on March 27 2021 identified four copies two in Ohio Libraries one at the University of Texas at Austin and one at a Scottish Rites Temple in Massachusetts. Occasionally copies appear briefly on-line and generally are purchased quickly. Thousands who witnessed the funeral procession as it moved from the McKinley home on Market Avenue N to the church services were "Hushed and Broken in Heart" as they watched the cortege. Mrs. McKinley spent a half hour alone with the casket but she would not attend the funeral services instead staying at home the rest of the day. The funeral procession began at the McKinley home at 1:14 p.m. and arrived at the First Methodist Church now Crossroads United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. McKinley's body first lay in state for public viewing in Buffalo N.Y. on Sept. 15-16;. The nation focused its attention on the casket that made its way by train first to Washington where it first lay in the East Room of the Executive Mansion and then in state in the Capitol and then was taken to Canton. A hundred thousand people passed by the open casket in the Capitol Rotunda many having waited hours in the rain; in Canton an equal number did the same at the Stark County Courthouse on September 18. The following day a funeral service was held at the First Methodist Church; the casket was then sealed and taken to the McKinley house where relatives paid their final respects. It was then transported to the receiving vault at West Lawn Cemetery in Canton to await the construction of the memorial to McKinley already being planned. The former first lady accompanied her husband on the funeral train. Historian Margaret Leech noted "the circuitous journey was a cruel ordeal for the woman who huddled in a compartment of the funeral train praying that the Lord would take her with her Dearest Love". She was thought too weak to attend the services in Washington or Canton although she listened at the door to the service for her husband in her house on North Market Street. Among organizations that participated in the procession were Canton Commandery No. 38 Knights Templars; The Grand Commandery Knights Templars of Ohio; The Knights Templars of Louisville Kentucky and Pittsburgh; Eagle Lodge No. 431 it would become the McKinley Lodge; The Grand Army Band; and Thayer's Military Band. At the church President Roosevelt occupied the front pew. Behind him were 40 United States senators 120 representatives and many state governors. Honorary pallbearers selected by the family included John C. Dueber George B. Frease R. A. Cassidy William R. Day Joseph Biechele Henry W. Harter William A. Lynch and Thomas McCarty. Widow McKinley remained in Canton for the remainder of her life setting up a shrine in her house and often visiting the receiving vault until her death at age 59 on May 26 1907. She died only months before the completion of the large marble monument to her husband in Canton which was dedicated by President Roosevelt on September 30 1907. William and Ida McKinley are interred there with their daughters atop a hillside overlooking the city of Canton. The Watts Printing Co unknown

Wood Printing Works, Ltd
A Memory of John F. Kennedy; Visit to Ireland 26th-29th June 1963
Dublin Republic of Ireland: Wood Printing Works Ltd 1963. Presumed First Edition First printing. Hardcover. Good/Fair. 32 pages. Foreword by Sean F. Lemass. Small chips missing to dust jacket edges. Some text in Gaelic. This bookwith over twenty full color reproductions is a complete historical record of John F. Kennedy's visit to Ireland. All the highlights of his visit the happy and intimate as well as the formal and impressive are fully described with a wealth of background information also included. All his speeches are recorded in full as are many of the witty asides with which he delighted all who heard him. In short this book recaptures the atmosphere of those four short summer days when the whole Irish people poured forth their hearts in waves of love and respect in what was tragically to prove their opportunity of seeing this great man. As Sean Lemass says in his foreword this book "will be cherished as a memento by Irish people at home and abroad." The Emerald Isle welcomed Kennedy America's first Irish Catholic President like a returning son. Thousands lined the streets to welcome the young leader as his motorcade cruised its way through the streets of Dublin. In typically whimsical fashion Kennedy began his introductory speech by saying: "It took 115 years to make this trip and six thousand miles and three generations." He was of course referring to his Irish roots where the President's great grandfather had fled The Great Famine sailing from New Ross Co. Wexford just a few miles from the Kennedy family home to America's east coast. During his visit Kennedy traveling without a heavily pregnant Jackie met with Irish President Eamon de Valera as well his wife Sinead who recited a poem about emigration and exile that would ultimately stay with Kennedy for a long time. The poem read: "'Tis the Shannon's brightly glancing stream brightly gleaming silent in the morning beam. Oh! The sight entrancing. Thus return from travels long years of exile years of pain to see Old Shannon's face again o'er the waters glancing." So impressed was JFK that he incorporated the words in his final speech before departing from Shannon. "Well I am going to come back and see old Shannon's face again and I am taking as I go back to America all of you with me" he said. Before he left though he dropped in on his Irish cousin Mary Ryan who held a garden-party for him in the grounds of their ancestral home. In typical Irish mammy fashion Mrs. Ryan gave her famous relative a warm welcome but couldn't be doing with all the Secret Service protocol and Presidential red-tape. She walked right up to Kennedy to give him a kiss hello - which is usually a big no-no after JFK cut a ceremonial cake she demanded that he give her the first slice and when the President informed his cousin that he had to leave she responded by saying: "Oh you're not going yet." Sadly he would never return nor see old Shannon's face again as months later he was assassinated in Dallas. But the impact of his visit still resonates with Irish people. Kennedy helped to publicize and legitimize the strong link between America and Ireland which still exists to this day. Wood Printing Works, Ltd hardcover

Frontier Printing & Mailing Co
Our Changing Point of View
Cheyenne WY: Frontier Printing & Mailing Co 1969. Presumed First Edition First printing. Booklet. Good. Approximately 8 inches by 5.25 inches. 8 pages including covers. Cover has some wear and soiling. Some page discoloration. Most of the work is pictorial with one large image on most pages with caption/text at the bottom of the page. This booklet reproduces original photographs from the Apollo 8 mission. This publication was both a tribute to the important step of man's march to the stars and it was also a commercial. It was the technological advances that permitted the space journeys that were pictured in this booklet. In their own way printed communications have utilized their advances to help people tell their story better. The reproduction of these photographs in two or three colors is typical of the abilities of Frontier Printing & Mailing Co. These abilities keep pace in this ever changing and advancing world. Frontier Printing and Mailing asked to have the opportunity to show potential customers how their creativity combined with modern equipment can improve a customer's communication of the printed word. The billed themselves as The Down-To-Earth Idea People! This booklet was printed by Dynamation using a Harris 23" by 29" press. IT is rare for this type of ephemeral marketing material to survive more than half a century. The production of this Space oriented marketing booklet was an indication of the capabilities and vision of the owners. We researched to see if this firm was still in business and it is. Vision Graphics Inc. as we know it today was founded by Francis E Brooks in 1952 as Frontier Lettershop in Cheyenne WY. Frontier evolved from an earlier startup in the employment agency business which was sold to an employee. Frontier grew over the years with name changes to Frontier Printing and Mailing and then back to Frontier Printing Inc. The company was sold to some staff in the early 1980's and four years later was reacquired by its founder. In 1986 Mr. Brooks recruited his nephew Mark Steputis into the business. Mark had graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in marketing. As the years went by Mark got more involved with the management of the company and was promoted to Vice President and by 1995 was named President of the company. Mark acquired ownership of the company in 1996 after his uncle's passing. At this point the company was marketing its services to a wider and wider geographic area and the bulk of the work was coming from Northern Colorado companies while the company remained in Cheyenne WY. The company grew quickly and Vision became a dominate player in the rocky mountain market with business across the country. Frontier Printing & Mailing Co unknown
