Titolo entro bella, larga, bordura silogr. con fiori, putti e grotteschi (lo stemma in basso al centro anticamente riempito in inchiostro bruno); car. corsivo, numerosi passaggi in greco, gran numero di iniziali ornate da interlazzi, impresa giuntina in fine. Dedica di Carlo Aldobrandi a Lorenzo de Medici. Prima ed unica edizione giuntina dell'opera in 20 libri, in parte mutili in origine, in cui Aulo Gellio (130-175 d.C.) raccolse, ad uso dei propri figli, il frutto delle sue ricerche e letture, effettuate per lo più ad Atene nelle serate invernali. Numerose e frammentate sono le materie trattate, ma il suo pregio va ricercato nei passi citati da opere di antichi autori altrimenti perdute. Stimata ed assai rara edizione giuntina, notevole per l'elaborata bordura silogr. adorna di figure mitologiche e maschere grottesche, descritta dal Sander, 3063. Inserted loose is an original engraving by Weiss signed and numbered 2/26.The festschrift for Emil Rudolf Weiss a leading German calligrapher typographer type and book designer who worked in the first half of the 20th century and is particularly associated with Bauer.<br>Among the essays are contriubtions by Gerhart Haptmann Oskar Loerke Hans Rupe Emil Strauss J. Les traductions sont de Huber et Turgot pour Daphnis et Chloe, les Idylles et la Mort d’Abel, de Meister pour Les nouvelles idylles, de l’abbé Bruté de Loirelle pour Les Pastorales. On a ajouté deux contes de Diderot, Les deux amis de Bourbonne et Entretien d’un père avec ses enfants. Édition curieusement inconnue de Cohen - Quérard III, p. 340. - Mahérault, L’Oeuvre de Moreau le Jeune, n°189.L’imprimeur dijonnais Pierre Causse, né en 1761, avait repris les presses de son père en 1788. “Il imprima presque toutes les brochures locales sur la Révolution. Quelques-unes sont devenues fort rares ; toutes se distinguent par le bon goût , la correction, la beauté de l’impression... C’est notre meilleur typographe.” écrit M. Clément-Janin dans Les Imprimeurs et les Libraires dans la Côte-d’Or. Il s’agit d’une des toutes dernières impressions de ce grand typographe dijonnais puisque c’est en 1795 qu’il se retire définitivement dans son château de Vantoux qu’il avait acheté un an auparavant. Bel exemplaire sur papier vélin avec les figures en état définitif. Il est d’une parfaite fraîcheur.
