New Town a Story about the Bell Family
UK: Children's Book Club. 1961. Hardcover. Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket. Hbk in d/w; this book is in really lovely condition; if it wasn't for a couple of minor faults I would say that it looks as good as new; blue cloth covers with just a hint of fading to the very edges of board covers; internally the book looks as if it hasnt been opened let alone read but it might have had an incredibly careful reader; obviously not a sign of handwriting marks or foxing; d/w not clipped; the yellow d/w is really bright; there is a faded light brown mark on the rear of d/w but otherwise the d/w is near perfect; its not often you find a book of this age in such lovely condition; ; Bell Family; 8vo 8" - 9" tall . John Rowe Townsend describes as Noel Streatfeild's best-known and possibly her best pre-war book. The Circus Is Coming Townsend commends the detailed personal research which gives the book so much authenticity and compares it with Streatfeild's perceptive writing on family suggesting that the circus is a "super-family".
