A eight volume set of the works of Charles Dickens comprising part of thethirty volume 'London Edition' published byCaxton at around 1910 although the books are undated. With monochrome vignettes and colour plates throughout illustrations are provided by 'Phiz' Robert Seymour and George Cruickshank the latter only contrubuting to Hard Times and Sketches by Boz which are bound as one volume here. The works make for a definitiveset of Dickens' novels with his preferred illustrators embellishing the text extremely well and evoking Dickens' London and its colourful denizens masterfully. Although the likes of A Tale of Two Cities and Oliver Twist are absent from the set here some of the author'smost enduringworks are included such as David Copperfield Bleak House and Nicholas Nickleby as well as some less popular but still worthwhile volumes such as Little Dorrit and Dombey and Son. The works included here are the following: The Pickwick Papers Nicholas Nickleby Martin Chuzzlewit Dombey and Son David Copperfield Little Dorrit Bleak House and Hard Times and Sketches by Boz. Condition: In half-morocco binding with gilt detailing. Externally quite smart there are some markings to the boards as well as wear to the boards extremities and backstrips. The hinges are also somewhat tender to some volumes. Internally the pages are firmly bound and are generally bright and clean although there are instances of spotting and light foxing throughout the set. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED.
