Quarto 6 magazine issues bound Jan. 1855 through May 1856 pp. viii 864 original black cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine and upper panel and blind-stamped floral decoration engraved illustrations. Contains the original American printing of the novel Little Dorrit which first appeared in book form in Britain in 1857. The British serial release began in December 1855 a month before the present series started. The illustrations here are unsigned but they appear to be the work of Phiz Hablot Browne. Also in this Harper's volume is a short article by Dickens called "A Nightly Scene in London" and a two part description of Commodore Perry's visit to Japan and China. Condition of this book: Both joints cracked losses at spine ends extremities rubbed interior very good but with a musty odor that likely will fade with dry storage images fine. Size: Quarto.
