Beautifully bound in 19th century green half-calf with raised bands to the spine matching marbled boards and end-papers. Patterned edges of the pages. At the rear of the book there is a small bookseller's ticket: R Stewart Paisley. This is likely to be Robert Stewart - bookseller stationer and bookbinder in Paisley during the 1850's. Each volume consists or red cloth chemise with pull ribbon and double red cloth slipcases exterior slipcase is one quarter gilt-tooled red leather with 5 raised bands. Vol I: parts I - X Vol II: parts XI - XIX/XX. All 40 B&W plates are present with tissue guards. All advertisements appear to be intact. Many first issue points are present including publisher's imprint on first 4 plates "latter" for "letter" on page160 line 6 "mercie" on page 270 line 15 "visiters" on page 272 line 2 notice of no plates in XIV with subsequent additional plates in XV.
