He next turns to 'Children's Playtime' which has 'broken all attendance records in the Parks since the school holidays commenced.' He explains his 'theory that if you can attract the kids you automatically attract the adults'. 'I wish we could get a definite spot to try this out for next Christmas on big lines. ‎Theatre Services Co. Inc‎

‎Pat Boone‎

‎Theatre Services Co. Inc 1967. Presumed First Edition First printing. Wraps. Good. The format is approximately 8.875 by 12 inches. Unpaginated 16 pages plus covers. Illustrated covers. Inscribed by the author on the front cover. The inscription reads To David--from--"back when" Pat Boone. Patrick Charles Eugene Boone born June 1 1934 is an American singer songwriter actor author television personality radio host and philanthropist. He has sold nearly 50 million records and had 38 Top 40 hits and has acted in many films. Boone rivaled Elvis Presley's popularity in the 1950s and is ranked by Billboard as one of the biggest charting artists in the period 1955–1995. Boone spent 220 consecutive weeks on the Billboard charts with one or more songs each week. Through the 1960s Boone was one of the most popular entertainers in the United States becoming a teen idol as an alternative to rock and roll as singer writer actor and motivational speaker. In 1957 Boone commenced an ABC variety television series The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom which aired 115 episodes 1957–1960. Stars including Nat King Cole Edie Adams Andy Williams Pearl Bailey and Johnny Mathis made appearances. His cover versions of rhythm and blues hits had a noticeable effect on the development of the broad popularity of rock and roll. Elvis Presley opened for Boone in Cleveland in 1955 and the two later became close friends. As an author Boone had a number-one bestseller in the 1950s 'Twixt Twelve and Twenty. He became a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. He continues to perform and speak as a motivational speaker a television personality and a political commentator. Boone began his career by performing in Nashville's Centennial Park. He began recording in April 1953 for Republic Records not to be confused with the current label with that name and by 1955 for Dot Records. His 1955 version of Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame" was a hit. This set the stage for the early part of Boone's career which focused on covering R&B songs by black artists for a white American market. Randy Wood the owner of Dot issued an R&B single by the Griffin Brothers in 1951 called "Tra La La-a" — a different song from the later LaVern Baker song of the same name — and was keen to put out another after the original failed. This became the B-side of the first Boone single "Two Hearts Two Kisses" originally by the Charms. A number-one single in 1956 by Boone was a cover of "I Almost Lost My Mind" by Ivory Joe Hunter which was previously covered by Nat King Cole. According to an opinion poll of high-school students in 1957 Boone was nearly the "two-to-one favorite over Elvis Presley among boys and preferred almost three-to-one by girls ." During the late 1950s he made regular appearances on ABC-TV's Ozark Jubilee hosted by his father-in-law. He cultivated a safe wholesome advertiser-friendly image that won him a long-term product endorsement contract from General Motors in the late 1950s. He succeeded Dinah Shore singing the praises of the GM product: "See the USA in your Chevrolet . drive your Chevrolet through the USA America's the greatest land of all!" GM also sponsored The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom. Many of Boone's hits were covers from Black artists. Along with "Ain't That a Shame" were "Tutti Frutti" and "Long Tall Sally" by Little Richard "At My Front Door Crazy Little Mama" by The El Dorados and the blues ballads "I Almost Lost My Mind" by Ivory Joe Hunter "I'll be Home" by the Flamingos and "Don't Forbid Me" by Charles Singleton. Boone is known as an example of whitewashing by taking songs by Black artists and sanitizing them to make them more palatable to a white audience which denied exposure to the Black artists. Boone also wrote lyrics for the instrumental theme song for the movie Exodus which he titled "This Land Is Mine". Ernest Gold composed the music. As a conservative Christian Boone declined songs or movie roles if they compromised his beliefs including a film with Marilyn Monroe. In one of his first films April Love the director Henry Levin wanted him to kiss co-star Shirley Jones. Since this would be his first onscreen kiss Boone cleared it with his wife before playing the scene.21 He had his own film production company Cooga Mooga Productions. He was a regular on Arthur Godfrey and His Friends from 1955 until 1957 and later hosted The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom on Thursday evenings. In 1959 his likeness was licensed to DC Comics first appearing in Superman's Girl Friend Lois Lane No. 9 May 1959 before starring in his own series from the publisher which lasted five issues from September 1959 to May 1960. In the 1960s he began a series of self-help books for adolescents including 'Twixt Twelve and Twenty. The British Invasion ended Boone's career as a hitmaker though he continued recording throughout the 1960s. In the 1970s he switched to gospel and country; he also continued performing in other media. In the 1960s and 1970s the Boone family toured as gospel singers. The family made gospel albums such as The Pat Boone Family. Theatre Services Co., Inc paperback‎

The original Broadway production ran for over two years beginning in 1953 and the 1954 West End production was also a success. Gwen Verdon in only her second Broadway role and choreographer Michael Kidd won Tony Awards and were praised. After the pre-Broadway tryout at the Shubert Theatre in Philadelphia in March 1953 Can-Can premiered on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre on May 7 1953 and closed on June 25 1955 after 892 performances. The original production starred Lilo as La Mome Hans Conried as Boris Peter Cookson as the judge Gwen Verdon as Claudine. According to Ben Brantley Claudine was "the part that made Gwen Verdon a star." The Shubert Theatre is a Broadway theater at 225 West 44th Street in the Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City United States. Opened in 1913 the theater was designed by Henry Beaumont Herts in the Italian Renaissance style and was built for the Shubert brothers. Lee and J. J. Shubert had named the theater in memory of their brother Sam S. Shubert who died in an accident several years before the theater's opening. It has 1502 seats across three levels and is operated by The Shubert Organization. The facade and interior are New York City landmarks. The Shubert's facade is made of brick and terracotta with sgraffito decorations designed in stucco. Three arches face south onto 44th Street and a curved corner faces east toward Broadway. To the east the Shubert Alley facade includes doors to the lobby and the stage house. The auditorium contains an orchestra level two balconies and a flat ceiling. The space is decorated with mythological murals throughout. Near the front of the auditorium flanking the elliptical proscenium arch are box seats at balcony level. The upper levels contain offices formerly occupied by the Shubert brothers and the stage house to the north is shared with the Booth Theatre. The Shubert brothers developed the Booth and Shubert theaters as their first venues on the block. The Shubert Theatre opened on October 2 1913 with a revival of Hamlet. The theater has hosted numerous long-running musicals throughout its history such as Can-Can Bells Are Ringing and Promises Promises. Since the 1970s the Shubert has hosted relatively few shows including long runs of the musicals A Chorus Line Crazy for You Chicago Spamalot Memphis and Matilda the Musical. A postcard or post card is a piece of thick paper or thin cardboard typically rectangular intended for writing and mailing without an envelope. Non-rectangular shapes may also be used but are rare. In some places one can send a postcard for a lower fee than a letter. Stamp collectors distinguish between postcards which require a postage stamp and postal cards which have the postage pre-printed on them. While a postcard is usually printed and sold by a private company individual or organization a postal card is issued by the relevant postal authority often with pre-printed postage. Production of postcards blossomed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As an easy and quick way for individuals to communicate they became extremely popular. The study and collecting of postcards is termed deltiology from Greek deltion small writing tablet and the also Greek -logy the study of. Shubert Theatre unknown‎

Mary Stuart German: Maria Stuart is a verse play by Friedrich Schiller that depicts the last days of Mary Queen of Scots. The play consists of five acts each divided into several scenes. The play had its première in Weimar Germany on 14 June 1800. The play formed the basis for Donizetti's opera Maria Stuarda 1835. While Mary's cousin Elizabeth hesitates over signing Mary's death sentence After Mary finds out that Mortimer created by Schiller is on her side she entrusts her life to him. Mary finally gains the opportunity to meet Queen Elizabeth something that in reality never happened. This meeting ends in an acrimonious argument. ‎Lady Windermere's Fan; 2004-2005 Season Theater Program‎

‎The Shakespeare Theatre 2004. Presumed First Edition First printing thus. Wraps. Very good. Cover Photo of Dixie Barter by Carol Rosegg. 64 pages including covers. Illustrations many in color. Chronological timeline of Oscar Wilde's major works p. 19. Ticket stub laid in. Signed on page 9 by Hal Holbook Dixie Carter's husband who attended this performance and signed program during the intermission. Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde 16 October 1854 - 30 November 1900 was an Irish playwright novelist essayist and poet. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s he became one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. He is remembered for his epigrams his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray and his plays. As a spokesman for aestheticism he tried his hand at various literary activities: he published a book of poems lectured in the United States and Canada on the new "English Renaissance in Art" and then returned to London where he worked prolifically as a journalist. Known for his biting wit flamboyant dress and glittering conversation Wilde became one of the best-known personalities of his day. At the turn of the 1890s he refined his ideas about the supremacy of art in a series of dialogues and essays and incorporated themes of decadence duplicity and beauty into his only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray 1890. Wilde's huge popularity as a playwright began with his production of Lady Windermere's Fan his recherché attitude and personal aesthetics reflected in his writing. Lady Windermere's Fan A Play About a Good Woman is a four-act comedy by Oscar Wilde first produced on Saturday 20 February 1892 at the St. James's Theatre in London. The story concerns Lady Windermere who suspects that her husband is having an affair with another woman. She confronts him with it but although he denies it he invites the other woman Mrs. Erlynne to his wife's birthday ball. Angered by her husband's supposed unfaithfulness Lady Windermere decides to leave her husband for another lover. At the start of the 2005-6 season it adopted the current name Shakespeare Theatre Company. ‎St. Martin's Theatre‎

‎Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap: 47th Year‎

‎London: St. Martin's Theatre 1999. Presumed First Edition First printing thus. Wraps. Very good. 20 pages including covers. Wraps. Illustrations some with cover. Cover states Volume 6. Cover has slight wear and soiling. Beautifully done theater program from the longest running play so far in history. The Mousetrap is a murder mystery play by Agatha Christie. The Mousetrap opened in London's West End in 1952 and ran continuously until 16 March 2020 when the stage performances had to be discontinued due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The longest-running West End show it has by far the longest initial run of any play in history with its 27500th performance taking place on 18 September 2018. The play has a twist ending which the audience are traditionally asked not to reveal after leaving the theatre. The play is based on a short story itself based on the radio play but Christie asked that the story not be published as long as it ran as a play in the West End of London. The short story has still not been published within the United Kingdom but it has appeared in the United States in the 1950 collection Three Blind Mice and Other Stories. When she wrote the play Christie gave the rights to her grandson Mathew Prichard as a birthday present. In the United Kingdom only one production of the play in addition to the West End production can be performed annually3 and under the contract terms of the play no film adaptation can be produced until the West End production has been closed for at least six months. The play had to be renamed at the insistence of Emile Littler who had produced a play called Three Blind Mice in the West End before the Second World War. It began its run in London on 25 November 1952 at the Ambassadors Theatre. It ran at this theatre until Saturday 23 March 1974 when it immediately transferred to the larger St. Martin's Theatre next door where it reopened on Monday 25 March thus keeping its "initial run" status. St. Martin's Theatre is a West End theatre which has staged the production of The Mousetrap since March 1974 making it the longest continuous run of any show in the world. The theatre is located in West Street near Shaftesbury Avenue in the West End of London. It was designed by W. G. R. Sprague as one of a pair of theatres along with the Ambassadors Theatre also in West Street. Richard Verney 19th Baron Willoughby de Broke together with B. A. Bertie Meyer commissioned Sprague to design the theatre buildings. Although the Ambassadors opened in 1913 construction of the St. Martin's was delayed by the outbreak of the First World War. The theatre is still owned by the present Lord Willoughby de Broke and his family. The first production at the St. Martin's was the spectacular Edwardian musical comedy Houp La! starring Gertie Millar which opened on 23 November 1916. The producer was the impresario Charles B. Cochran who took a 21-year lease on the new theatre. Many famous British actors passed through the St. Martin's. In April 1923 Basil Rathbone played Harry Domain in R.U.R. and in June 1927 Henry Daniell appeared there as Gregory Brown in Meet the Wife. Successes at the theatre included Hugh Williams's play later a film The Grass is Greener John Mortimer's The Wrong Side of the Park and in 1970 the thriller Sleuth. After Cochran Bertie Meyer ran the theatre intermittently until 1967 when his son R. A. Ricky Meyer became administrator for the next two decades. In March 1974 Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap transferred from the Ambassadors to the St. Martin's where it continued its run until the 16th of March 2020 when the show had to be suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom holding the record for the longest continuously running show in the world. It has exceeded 26000 performances at the St. Martin's. St. Martin's Theatre paperback‎
