Near fine. <p>A note acknowledging receipt of the scripts "It's on the House" and "Judy Takes a Punch".<p>One of the more dramatic incidents of Spooner's career occurred in 1913 as reported in the New York Times of December 13 under the headline "Arrest of Actress Stops a Vice Play / Cecil Spooner Rides to Night Court in Patrol Wagon--Manager a Prisoner Too" when she was arrested along with the manager of her theatre as she was about to go onstage. The play a dramatization of Reginald Wright Kaufmann's "The House of Bondage" was about white slavery and had drawn complaints of indecency. The audience protested vociferously many of them following her to the police station. She was paroled into the custody of her counsel.<p>A scarce autograph. Jan 19th 1943. unknown

Very good. - 49 words penned in blue ink on a 10 inch high by 6 inch wide sheet of cream Vandamm Studio letterhead bordered in blue with the address & Vandamm's name printed in raised lettering in blue at the top. Signed "Florence V". Folded twice for mailing. There is a red check mark through the letter indicating it has been received and dealt with. Very good. <p>Vandamm writes to Jean Dalrymple about photographs of Patricia Morison who was the fourth actor to take over the part of Leonowens in the "King and I". DalrympLe produced the first revival of the musical at the New York City Center Light Opera company in April and May 1956 Morison was not included in the cast. Vandamm writes that the studio has "a complete Set Background of 'The King and I'.because we always did the cast here if there were any changes.If Miss Morrison sic does play the part. We have her straight - and also in costume."<p>Florence Vandamm began her career in England. She and her husband George R. Thomas an engineer who took up photography with his wife's assistance moved to America in 1923. They took over the New York studio from Francis Bruguiere and by the end of 1925 had turned it into the first call photographic service for stage productions in New York. <p>The recipient Jean Dalrymple 1902-1998 was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville appearing with James Cagney and Carey Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski Mary Martin Jos Iturbi Andre Kostalanetz Nathan Milstein and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943 serving as a board member producer and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951 Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world. Used; Like New/Used; Like New. Signed photograph postcard of the French singer actress and dancer known for her beauty and her relationship with King Manuel II of Portugal. Deslys is shown on stage wearing a fantastic feathered hat. Mounting remnants on verso trimmed else in fine condition. 8 x 12.3 cm.<br>The danseuse singer and actress became incredibly popular worldwide in the 1910's. Born Marie-Elise-Gabrielle Caire Deslys chose her stage name as an abbreviation of Gabrielle of the Lillies. Known for her beauty Deslys delighted audiences both on stage and off appearing on Broadway in her early career and making the jump to silent films soon after. She also saw popularity after King Manuel II of Portugal's infatuation with her became public knowledge having an on again off again relationship for a number of years though she later became involved with actor Harry Pilcer. In 1919 Deslys contracted a severe throat infection caused by the Spanish influenza which was further complicated by her request to not have any surgeries done that would scar her neck. She died soon after passing away in Paris in 1920 leaving her entire estate to the poor of Marseilles. <br> unknown
