Cataldo Jannelli (Brienza 1781 - Napoli 1841), erudito bibliotecario della Biblioteca borbonica di Napoli e segretario dell'Accademia Ercolanense di Storia e Archeologia, curò la trascrizione e il commento di un codice di Nicola Perotti contenente alcune favole di Fedro. La pubblicazione fu occasione di una vivace polemica con un altro erudito, Giovanni Antonio Cassitto, che pubblicò un’altra edizione dello stesso codice, meno corretta filologicamente e plagiando in parte l’edizione del Jannelli.
