Youri Jarkikh Jarki Latin: Zharkikh; born July 16 1938 is a French-Russian painter and visual artist of the "Russian vanguard". Jarkikh was born in Tikhoretsk Krasnodar Krai Soviet Union. From 1961 to 1967 he studied at the Leningrad Vera Mukhina Higher School of Art and Design. Jarkikh was co-organizer of the movement for independent art in the Soviet Union. He was significant in the cultural history of Leningrad later Saint Petersburg as an organizer of the Independent Society for Experimental Exhibitions. In 1974 Jarkikh organized with O. Rabin E. Ruchin and A. Gleser non-conformist artists the Bulldozer Exhibition in Moscow. In 1974 and 1975 Jarkikh was one of the initiators of the Gazanevsky exhibition of unofficial art in Leningrad. Jarkikh was pursued by the KGB because of his activities. His health was affected through the practice with Iprite a poison. In 1978 he emigrated to France where he received political asylum. In 1984 Jarkikh founded the artists' association Eidos. He held exhibitions at the Palais des congrès de Paris from 1987 to 1988. In 1990 he was elected "Premier Peintre de Paris" First Artist of Paris. After the "Poets Alphabet" exhibition in Saint Petersburg in 2008 he again accepted Russian nationality which was offered to him by the Russian government. Jarkikh's creativity developed under the influence of the Russian vanguard and German Expressionism. Nearly half of his 77 years Jarki has lived in exile. His works are in the collections of the best museums in the world including the Centre Pompidou and the number of his exhibitions in the West exceeds one hundred. In the USSR it was not even a small part of such exhibition opportunities. Yuri Zharkikh along with Alexander Refiev and Eugene Rohini were among the originators of "gazanevsky culture" and been voices of dissent in the historical period. Jarki and Rukhin were Zamperini "Shuttle diplomacy" between St. Petersburg and Moscow underground vivid organizers and "a pain" for the authorities. Both were among the instigators and participants of the Bulldozer exhibition in 1974. Rukhin died in the prime of a career in a fire at his workshop in 1976. Aref died in Paris in 1978 just a year after emigrating. Jarkie emigrated to the West after- time settled in France where he then lived and worked. The brightest pages in the biography of Jarki are linked to the USSR and its practice of persecution of independent artists. In Germany then in France Yuri Zharkikh was a rather busy schedule of exhibitions — personal and group interest in unofficial Russian artists in the West in 1970s was particularly high. In 1984 the artist organized in France a group of "Eidos". His work in Moscow was seen occasionally on the gallery level. In particular in 2009 exhibition of his work was organized by the Gallery "vellum". Recently his work can be seen in St. Petersburg "New Museum" Aslan chehova and "Erarta". His work quite independently and recognizable. Yes his stories are often anthropomorphic plexus heaps of creatures with transparent skin. But it is rather a stylistic device to transmit its own philosophical ideas. paperback‎

All the tapestries, except one stolen at an earlier date and now lost, were burned in the fire that destroyed most of the Palace of Westminster in 1834. Pine's great work depicting this famous naval battle is therefore now of great historical importance.  Apart from the remarkable detail of the engraving and the wealth of invention in the various cartouches, the restrained use of coloured ink to print the plate surface produces a strikingly attractive effect, and represents a very early example of the colour-printing of illustrations. Il ne faut pas confondre ce Ninian Pinkney (1776-1825), Baltimorien, alors lieutenant-colonel des Native Rangers et correspondant de Bentham, avec le médecin militaire du même nom (1811-1877). Il ne faut pas non plus attribuer l'ouvrage à des Pinkney qui n'ont rien à y voir, comme on le voit dans nombre de référencements : ou William Pinkney (1764-1822), le 7e Attorney général, ou un Nathan Pinkney non attesté par ailleurs...L'ouvrage est fort intéressant, donnant un point de vue complètement extérieur sur l'état de la France, tant à Paris que dans les provinces traversées, de Tours à Marseille. ‎Rio de Janeiro: Nova Fronteira Memoria Brasileira 1980. Hardcover. Near Fine. Folio size 124 pp. inscribed by Claudio Arrau. A little-known work on the great coffee plantations of the nineteenth century in the area around Rio de Janeiro. Coffee first started to appear in the area around 1760 and by 1822 there were plantations in the area with more than fifty thousand coffee plants with massive tracts of rainforest being cleared first from the vicinity of Rio and later Sao Paulo for coffee growing. The families owning the plantations built huge homes some of them almost small castles - one of which the Parque Sao Clemente had ceilings so beautiful that special reclining chairs were installed so that they could be better admired. This book explores those fazendas both inside and out to provide a glimpse into this glittering past. The text of the book is in Portuguese and an accompanying softcover book has the English translation.<br /> <br /> This volume was previously owned by Claudio Arrau 1903-1991 a Chilean pianist widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the twentieth century. <br /> <br /> ___DESCRIPTION: Quarter tan cloth with black paper boards pictorial paste-down of one of the plantation houses inset into the front board with titlte in silver brown lettering on the spine decorative endpapers of stylised palm trees title page in red and black with a small tipped-in photograph tipped-in colour photographs throughout drawn map towards the rear of the book showing the location of the fazendas along the Rio Paraiba do Sul; folio size 13.75" by 10.5" pagination: i-iii 1-2 3-111 112-121 inscribed by Claudio Arrau "Rio de Janeiro 1981" on the first flyleaf. Please note the text is in Portuguese. Accompanying English translation in English a softcover booklet in black paper wraps stapled at the spine with gold lettering and publisher's device on the front cover 19 pp. In a slipcase covered in green paper with stylised palm tree pattern and a pictorial paper label on the front board.<br /> <br /> ___CONDITION: Volume is near fine with clean boards a strong square text block with solid hinges straight corners with no rubbing the interior is clean and bright with the only prior owner markings in both volumes being the name written of Claudio Arrau as noted above and each of the tipped-in photographs is in fine condition; some light stray soil marks on the spine and a small old dampstain on the bottom edge of the spine a few of the final pages have some minor rippling from the old damp else fine. The accompanying English translation is also near fine clean overall with a few shallow creases on the wraps.
