The abridged and revised edition was first published by Thornton Butterworth in 1931 with a second impression in 1932. In 1941 rights were transferred to Macmillan who then issued third and fourth impressions in 1942 and 1943 respectively. The extra chapter XI on the Marne is found at p.104; it was first published in the Daily Telegraph newspaper in June 1930 Woods C153. Very minor edge wear to the spine and covers. The front free endsheet has the previous owners' names above the author's inscription. The dust jacket is in very good condition with a heavily sunned spine and mild rubbing. The rear panel is also sunned near the jacket's spine. The edges are lightly creased and have several closed tears. The longest closed tear is 1 and 1/2 inches long. Inscribed by Rudolfo Anaya on the front free endsheet. Rudolfo Anaya is the author of award-winning Bless Me Ultima.
