Toole was one of the most famous actors of his day known for his roles in farces and serio-comic dramas. In July 1874 he set out on an American tour and these banquets were fare-thee-wells from his friends and colleagues. Included among the list of attendees is Charles Dickens d. 1870 -- which makes no sense. In any case his American tour was a flop and he returned to England to resume his previous career. paperback
