‎12mo., with engraved frontispiece original tissue guard present), and 7 engraved plates, some light age-soiling (mainly marginal) throughout; publisher's dark green pebble-grain cloth, upper board blocked and lettered in gilt, expertly rebacked in red roan lettered in gilt to style, hand-made endpapers, a remarkably well-preserved copy of a scarce work. This popular and influential work purports to contain 'many unpublished receipts in daily use by private families, collected by a Committee of Ladies'. It was first published in 1858 [Cagle 1045] with a second edition in 1859 [Simon 1595]. The plates depict kitchen implements, trussing and carving. From the Preface we learn that Walsh intended this work as a complement to his 'The English Housekeeper's Book' published in the same year as this edition. EXTREMELY SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.‎
