New York: Street and Smith 1952. 170 pp. Digest format. Light wear; no interior markings. Cover art by Alejando; interiors by Edd Cartier Orban Pawelka Welker and van Dongen. This issue contains: Short Novel: The Entrepreneue by Thomas Wilson. Novelette: Frontier of the Dark by A. Bertram Chandler. Short Stories: No Moon for Me by Walter M. MIller Jr; Demotion by Robert Donald Locke. Special Feature: Improbably Profession by Leonard Lockhard. And Article: Zero Hour Minus X Years; followed by the usual features including the John W. Campbell editorial: The Laws of Speculation and a letter from Arthur C. Clarke in Brass Tacks. Astounding Stories started in January 1930. The original publisher went broke in 1933 while the magazine was being edited by Harry Bates. Street and Smith took over then with F. Orlin Tremaine at the helm. At that point the magazine had some major success. In 1937 John W. Campbell took over as editor. And some of the greatest sf writers ever were being published there: Isaac Asimov; A E. van Vogt; Robert A. Heinlein. the list goes on like a Who's Who of early Science Fiction. Campbell had never been fond of the magazine's name but it wasn't until 1960 that he changed the title to Analog Science Fiction & Fact; he had long wanted to get rid of the word Astounding in the title which he felt was too sensational. At about the same time Conde Nast took over the magazine. Campbell remained as editor until his death in 1971. And the magazine is still going strong today. First Edition. Soft Cover. Very Good. Illus. by Alejandro; Cartier; Orban; Pawelka; van Dongen; Welker;. 12mo. Street and Smith Paperback
