Prevod Kratila je sacinio dr Aleksandar Petrovic prema Barnetovom oksfordskom izdanju Platovog teksta kao i Proklov komentar prema Paskvalijevom lajpciskom izdanju priredjenom pocetkom veka. Hrvatski prevod Dinka Stanbuka imao je poprilican broj nepreciznosti cak i neprevedeno jedno Sokratovo pitanje i repliku na njega sto je u sadasnjem Petrovicevom prevodu izbegnuto. Original na grckom jeziku koji je stampan paralelno s prevodom bez sumnje je kvalitetna novina koja se pojavila zahvaljujuci trudu i dobrom sluhu izdavaca. Premda je ovaj Platonov dijalog u savremenim diskusijama inace u prilicnoj meri maginalizovan valja napomenuti i vazan podatak da je njegov znacaj reaktualizovala ruska filosofska skola na celu sa Aleksejem F. Losevim. On je s pravom smatrao da ga opredeljuje filosofski govor s obzirom na njegovu teznju prema strogosti odredjivanja stvari zarad pristalosti i merodavnosti te da etimoloski diskurs jezicke kompetencije ima za posledicu ironican stav sto u Kratilu najbolje ilustruje etimologizacija bozanskih imena. I inace su likovi ucesnika Kratila i Hermogena postavljeni ironicno u dijalogu dok je recimo komentator Proklo njihove poglede shvatao ozbiljno mada je u tom njegovom shvatanju tesko uociti neku veliku zaslugu.
