The particularities of the aera are well discribed by Marion Zimmer Bradley thumbs up for excellent research! and the reader gets a glimpse on how an aerial act is being prepared and built up as well as life on the road with a circus. As the story unfolds the characters become part of our own life and it seems hard to believe that we can't drop down by their house to pay them a visit. Despite the sheer length of the book I've always felt that it finished way too soon and resented the fact that I couldn't read on to learn more about the friends I found on the way. Fans of the author's fantasy novels might find a rather unexpected facette of Marion Zimmer Bradley's writing skills. Nonetheless this IS a masterpiece in its own right.
