"I have tried to set down what I saw or knew and to expres my feelings about the seen or the known as exactly aand vividly as lay in my powers. The matters I have chosen to relate have been selected from a memory which like all memories is as crowded as the rush-hour in a subway and they were chosen because I hoped they might divert or attract persons who had never heard of me and might perhaps prefer things that way. Edmund Fitzgerald that sunk tragically in a storm in 1975 subject of Gordon Lightfoot's evocative "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." Best of all this handsome copy has been inscribed and signed by the author in black ballpoint on the half-title page: "To: Adlai E. Stevenson / With Best Wishes / Edmund Fitzgerald." Adlai E.
