Lacks the main title page but with an extra engraved title page dated 1631. The engraved portrait of Bacon is mounted inside the front cover. 14 218 22; 4 43pp. 4to old boards well-rubbed and soiled; lacking spine but still firmly sewn. London: Printed by W. Lee 1631. Possibly the 3rd edition. There is an un-dated divisional title page for New Atlantis. The "Sylva Sylvarum" is a collection of Bacon's scientific experiments and observations in natural history which were intended for inclusion in his "Instauratio Magna." The work was edited and published posthumously by his friend William Rawley. The appended "New Atlantis" is one of Bacon's most popular works and has served as inspiration for many scientific organizations.
