This is the first time this technique as developed by S.W. Hayter has been employed since Blake invented it." <br /> <br /> Winter of Artifice was first published by the Obelisk Press in 1939 but the contents were revised for this edition which Nin's bibliographer Benjamin Franklin yes that's right claims is one of the hardest to date. This poem details the war between Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great's Roman senate forces. 'De Bello Civili' was the manuscript name for this work. It is also known as 'The Parsalia' and commemorates the decisive victory of Caesar during the Battle of Pharsalus Thessaly Northern Greece in 48BC. It was started in 61 AD and enjoyed widespread circulation until due to a falling out between the Emperor Nero and Lucan the work was banned by Nero. Edited by and with notes by Hugo Grotius a Dutch jurist and economical theologist. With further review by Cornelis Schrevel a Dutch physician and scholar. Lucan was a Roman poet from Hispania Baetica. He is often seen as one of the most prominent figures of the Imperial Latin period. He found great success compared to other poets with his youth and speedy writing on his side. Lucan was once friends with the great emperor Nero but they fell out after Nero forbade the publication of many of his poems. Lucan later joined the Gaius Calpurnius Piso conspiracy against Nero. Once this was discovered he committed suicide. In a full calf binding. Externally rubbed to the joints and extremities. Patches of rubbing to the joints. Fading to the board edges. Ailleurs dans leurs arrière-boutiques [Poulet-Malassis et Jules Gay] 1864-1866 3 vol. relié 3 vol. in-12, veau fauve, dos à nerfs ornés de fleurons dorés, grand fer doré sur les plats, guirlande aux mors et fleurons aux coins, têtes dorées, 239, 250 et 273 pp., index. Série complète en second tirage de ces recueils de poésies libres compilés par Poulet-Malassis pendant son séjour en Belgique et publiés avec l'aide de Jules Gay. L'idée leur en était venue dans la foulée de la réédition du "Parnasse satyrique du sieur Théophile" (de Viau). On y trouve la fine fleur de la littérature romantique, avec des textes de Béranger, Emile Deschamps, Auguste Barbier, Victor Hugo, George Sand, Alfred de Musset, Charles Baudelaire, Charles Monselet, Auguste Vacquerie, Théodore de Banville, Stéphane Mallarmé, etc. "Tout le monde est un peu compromis là-dedans, les plus illustres et les plus obscurs, car tout le monde a eu dans sa vie un moment de délire" lisait-on à ce propos dans la "Vie Parisienne" du 11 juin 1864. Exemplaire du second tirage sur vélin, avec les pages de titre imprimées en noir et sans les fac-similés du tirage de tête. Bien complet des deux frontispices de Félicien Rops. 2 ex-libris :contrecollés. La jolie reliure de l'époque, dont les plats sont malheureusement détachés ou grossièrement restaurés, est à restaurer. Anthony Blum 1907. Paperback. Acceptable. The story of the Laurentian Gold Mine in Gold Rock Ontario is told in this 49 page book with black and white photographic illustrations. Paperback cover has damp stains tears and chips string bound. First and last few pages have damp stains the red string ran into the book at the gutter all the way through. Very evocative portrait of a gold mine of a mine that yielded roughly 8143 ounces of gold between 1906 and 1909.
