A strikingly illustrated limited edition of 'Jedermann' - a rare folio with Erwin Lang's woodcuts signed both by him and Hofmannsthal. This work was produced in a unique edition of 250 numbered copies signed by Hugo von Hofmannsthal and the artist to the colophon. This is copy number 128. A very scarce copy. A large folio measuring 21" by 16.5". Printed in red and black. With the striking woodcuts of Erwin Lang the original woodblocks of which were destroyed after printing. Collated complete with the publisher's vignette title page nine full-page woodcuts and a head and tail piece. Rebacked with the publisher's original card covers with cloth spine. Bound with the half title and preliminary woodcut. First performed in 1911 in Berlin at the Circus Schumann Jedermann is perhaps best known for its regular performance at the Salzburg Festival since 1920. The play by Austrian playwright Hugo von Hofmannsthal sees God sending Death Tod to summon the rich bon viveur Jedermann who is then adandoned by his friends his wealth and his lover Buhlschaft. Rebacked with the publisher's original card covers with cloth spine. Externally with toning and scattered tide marks to the original boards. Rubbing to the extremities.
