Auf einen Gipskern, der Replik einer Affenfigur, modelliert sie Wachs auf die animalische Form in einem ganz persönlichen haptischen Ereignis. Die Wärme, die Spuren, der Druck ihrer Hände ummantelt mit dem weichen Material die Kernform. Es schmiegt sich an. Dabei fungiert die Wachsschicht wie ein transformatorisches Element, akzentuiert das komplexe Potenzial des kulturellen Mythos über sich hinaus, ist Ähnlichkeit und Differenz zugleich. Gleichzeitig kann die Plastik wie ein Palimpsest gelesen werden. Eine Art Gedächtnis, genauer ein Speicher des Gedachten, der über Zeiten hinweg Bedeutungen aufnimmt, jetzt im Verdeckten konserviert und Neues formuliert. Es entsteht eine Dialektik von Verschwinden und gleichzeitig Vergegenwärtigen. // Angelika Margull entführt uns mit ihren Bildern in Welten, die kaum zu deuten sind. Rätselhaftes scheint in ihnen vor sich zu gehen. Der Blick wird sachte aber nachdrücklich von den Färb-und Formflächen in einen eigentümlichen Bildkosmos gelenkt, bohrt sich in eine unbestimmte Tiefe und wird umfangen von ungewohnten Farbkompositionen. Gesichtslose Wesen führen in diesem Werkkomplex, an dem Margull seit fünf Jahren arbeitet, ein Eigenleben. Wie in Vexierbildern begibt man sich auf die Suche nach einer verschlüsselten Bedeutung, die aber unauflösbar bleibt. Die Wesen, die diese Bildwelt bestimmen, zeigen sich ausschließlich von hinten als Rückenakt, gesichtslos und ohne Geschlecht. Ihre ent-individualisierte, androgyne Erscheinung verunsichert und fasziniert gleichermaßen. Der perfekte Körperbau, die Proportionen und die Pose von Standbein und Spielbein sind dem Ideal antiker Statuen abgeschaut. Häufig sieht man die Wesen in extrem verkürzter Perspektive, so dass nur Ausschnitte der Körper zu erkennen sind. Mit ihrer Schönheit locken sie den Betrachter, in ihre Welt einzutreten. Man möchte mehr von ihnen sehen, sie be-greifen. Sie entfachen einen voyeuristischen Blick, dem sie sich sogleich entziehen. Mit traumwandlerischer Sicherheit ziehen die Wesen sich in ihre Sphären zurück. // Im Grunde gehören nur drei Elemente zum Inventar Helmut Metzners gemaltem Theater aus Linien und Formen: die Farbfläche, das darübergelagerte Bild und die Linie. Ihre Interaktion zeigt, dass in manchen (visuellen) Fällen Gegensätze nicht nur passieren, sondern oft erzeugt sind. Sie fangen als stumme, im Bild nebeneinander stehende Elemente an, dann entfachen sie einen Streit zwischen Formen, Erzähltechniken und Metaphern. (Vorworte)‎
