A very sparse scattering of foxing within text block. Clean tight text block. A lovely copy. very good This early science fiction novel was originally written by the American inventor writer editor and magazine publisher as a twelve-part serial in Modern Electrics magazine beginning in April 1911. It was later compiled into a novel/book form in 1925. Considered one of the most influential science fiction stories of all time. ‎<p>New York: Frederick Fell 1950. Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. Signed. Warmly inscribed in 1958 "with profound admiration" by Gernsback to Vladimir K. Zworykin an engineer whose inventions had huge influences on television and electron microscopes. 2nd printing in this format. Grey cloth boards with red lettering under red illustrated dust jacket priced at $2.50. Laid in are two Gernsback pamphlets: "The Origin of the Term Science Fiction" and "Digest of Digests" Christmas 1946. Book in very good condition indeed but dust jacket has a large chip to the top of spine & part of front panel about 2". Nonetheless it is an excellent quasi-association copy from the father of science fiction to the father of television. I say "quasi" because I don't have evidence that they knew each other well. Clearly though they became acquainted well enough for Gernsback to be impressed with Zworykin's career.</p> Frederick Fell hardcover‎

‎New York NY: FREDERICK FELL INC. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 1950. 2nd Edition. Hardcover. This book is in Very Good condition and has a Very Good dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mosty clean bright condition. There is some beginning bumping to the spine ends of the book cover along with a thin line of darkening / toning to the edges. The text pages are generally clean and bright though there is some light generalized toning especially to the page edges. The endpapers have a small patch of noticeable toning to the top edges both front and rear. The dust jacket is generally clean but has spots of rubbing and wear to the spine ends and corners and there are spots of foxing to the spine and to the rear cover especially the top rear panel. "Gernsback provided a forum for the modern genre of science fiction in 1926 by founding the first magazine dedicated to it Amazing Stories. The inaugural April issue comprised a one-page editorial and reissues of six stories three less than ten years old and three by Poe Verne and Wells. He said he became interested in the concept after reading a translation of the work of Percival Lowell as a child. His idea of a perfect science fiction story was "75 percent literature interwoven with 25 percent science". As an editor he valued the goal of scientific accuracy in science fiction stories: "Not only did Gernsback establish a panel of experts——all reputable professionals from universities museums and institutes—to pass judgment on the accuracy of the science; he also encouraged his writers to elaborate on the scientific details they employed in their stories comment on the impossibilities in each other's stories and even offered his readers prize money for identifying scientific errors." from Wikipedia . The May 1953 issue of Hugo Gernsback's science fiction magazine. Quarto 66 pp. illustrated wraps with a Frank R. Paul spaceman going EVA for the cover. Remarkable condition; literally no maco-flaws to point out. Complete spine no chips or tears faint soiling at places bright and largely quite clean. Better than Very Good plus close to near fine. One of the more important issues of this magazine with what Managing Editor Sam Moskowitz called Harry Bates' best story "Death of a Sensitive" and a Jay Landau illustration of the piece see scan. Landau's moody pulp illustrations foreshadowed his later career as the intense mainstream artist Jacob Landau. Plenty of Frank Paul art herein as well and stories by other notables Eando Binder Robert Bloch Harry Walton and F.L. Wallace.
