Printed on handmade deckle-edge paper and specially bound in "small 4to" gilt-stamped and vellum backed red cloth boards with limitation slip tipped to half-title page and with 8 tissue-protected plates with illustrations by Dudley Cleaver tipped in. Provenance: From the collection of Phildelphia writer and book collector Boies Penrose II 1902-1976 nephew and namesake of Senator Boies Penrose a powerful Republican in his day. With his bookplate on front pastedown and the signature of his father inventor of the surgical "Penrose" drain Charles Bingham Penrose "C. B. Penrose" at head of half-title page. Vellum shows mild soiling few tiny damp stains to cloth corners crimped endpapers lightly foxed. Still altogether very good or better. Scarce. W. Thacker & Co. unknown
