Polaris Mystery Indepth Report with Map of Route in the New-York Tribune June 1873
New York: New-York Tribune newspaper 1873. 1st Edition. No binding. Very Good. An Original and Complete 12 page Issue of The New-York Tribune Newspaper dated June 20 1873 regarding the Polaris expedition of 1871-73. Flat: 18 x 23-1/2 inches folded to 18 x 11-3/4 inches. A Front Page Map Showing The Route of The Polaris. The Polaris Mystery. Results of The Official Investigation. Secretary Robeson's Report To The President. Charges Against Captain Buddington. Some edge tanning a little fraigle and left side unbound otherwise very good condition. The Polaris expedition of 1871-1873 was an American expedition that was one of the first serious attempts to reach the North Pole after that of British naval officer Sir William Edward Parry who reached 82° 45 N in 1827. The expedition's notable achievement was reaching 82° 29 N by ship a record at the time. The expedition was commanded by the experienced and self-taught Arctic explorer Charles Francis Hall who had previously lived among the Inuit in the Arctic region while on his obsessive quest to determine the fate of Franklin's lost expedition of 1845. Hall possessed the necessary survival skills but lacked an academic background and had no experience leading men and commanding a ship. He had managed to secure the position of expedition commander based on his authority on the subject of the Arctic. quoted from Wikipedia. New-York Tribune newspaper unknown

The Globe" Toronto newspaper & "The Toronto Daily Mail" newspaper
Seven "The Globe" and One "The Toronto Daily Mail" newspapers with each issue reporting on the North-West Louis Riel rebellion
Toronto: The Globe" & "The Toronto Daily Mail" newspapers 1885. 1st Edition. No binding. Fair to good. 8 EARLY TORONTO NEWSPAPER REPORTS ON THE RIEL REBELLION North-West Rebellion also called North-West Resistance Second Riel Rebellion or Northwest Uprising violent insurgency in 1885 fought between the Canadian government and the Métis and their aboriginal allies in regions of Canada later known as Saskatchewan and Alberta. The North-West Rebellion was triggered by rising concern and insecurity among the Métis about their land rights and survival following an influx of white settlers and a decline in bison - a major food source for the Métis and indigenous peoples in west-central Canada. The North West Rebellion lasted less than three months in the spring of 1885. But the prairie uprising had an enduring effect on a nation. While the North-West Rebellion was ongoing the American and British press took note of the actions of both the Métis and the Canadian Government. This is the perspective of from two Toronto newspapers in 1885. The North-West Rebellion of 1885 also known as the Louis Riel Rebellion was a rebellion by the Métis people under Louis Riel and an associated uprising by First Nations Cree and Assiniboine of the District of Saskatchewan against the government of Canada. On April 24 1885 at Fish Creek Saskatchewan 200 Métis achieved a remarkable victory over a superior government force numbering 900 soldiers who were sent to quell the rebellion. On May 2 1885 the Cree war chief Fine-Day successfully held off Lieutenant Colonel William Otter at the Battle of Cut Knife near Battleford. On May 9 1885 Middleton attacked Batoche itself. The greatly outnumbered Métis ran out of ammunition after three days of battle and siege. Riel surrendered on May 15. The Battle of Batoche was a decisive victory for the Canadian militia with the capture of Louis Riel and the collapse of the Provisional Government of Saskatchewan. On May 28 1885 Major General Thomas Bland Strange brought a NWMP detachment from Calgary Alberta but they were unable to defeat a Cree force under Big Bear who carried the day at Frenchman's Butte at the end of May. The last armed engagement in the rebellion was during the Battle of Loon Lake. On June 3 1885. The Indianapolis Sentinel Newspaper unknown

Its main lakes are Muskoka Rousseau and Joseph. It was named for Chippewa chief Mesquas Ukee who negotiated the land claim for the territory with the British in the mid-1800s. Muskoka is an iconic area of Ontario's cottage country located approximately 200 km north of Toronto. A destination for seasonal residents and tourists who have been drawn by its natural beauty since the late 1800s the district has equally been home to generations of permanent residents. The Muskoka area was opened to settlement when Ontario's Free Grants and Homestead Act 1868 made land available to farmers. The Springfield Daily Republican Springfield Mass. newspaper. Established by Samuel Bowles II in 1824 as a rural weekly it was converted into a daily in 1844. From the beginning it had a focus on local news. The Fenian raids were carried out by the Fenian Brotherhood an Irish Republican organization based in the United States on British Army forts customs posts and other targets in Canada in 1866 and again from 1870 to 1871. A number of separate incursions by the Fenian Brotherhood into Canada were undertaken to bring pressure on the United Kingdom to withdraw from Ireland although none of these raids achieved their aims. From 1870 to 1871 the Fenian Brotherhood organized several raids into the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Manitoba. In 1871 O'Neill and an odd character named W. B. O'Donoghue asked the Savage Wing Council to undertake another invasion of Canada across the Dakota Territory border. O'Neill resigned from the Fenians to lead the invasion which was planned in Saint Paul Minnesota to invade Manitoba near Winnipeg. About 35 men led by John O'Neill William B. O'Donoghue and John J. Donnelly hoped to join forces with Louis Riel's French-Indian Métis. On October 5 O'Neill's force managed to capture a Hudson's Bay Company post and a Canadian customs house which they believed to be just north of the international border. A U.S. survey team had determined the border was two miles further north placing the Hudson's Bay post and the customs house both inside U.S. territory.15 O'Neill J. J. Donnelly and ten others were taken prisoner near Pembina Dakota Territory by U.S. soldiers led Captain Loyd Wheaton. In addition to organizing raids against those provinces the Fenian Brotherhood also organized openly in the Northwestern United States in the 1870s threatening the security of the Colony of British Columbia. The Springfield Republican newspaper
Red River of the North articles from The Springfield Republican newspaper
Springfield: The Springfield Republican 1871. 1st Edition. No binding. Good. Original Issue of The Springfield Republican dated August 14 1871 containing articles on Red River of the North St. Paul to Winnipeg written from Winnipeg Manitoba with the article written on July 31 1871: • The Far Northwest Winnipeg Manitoba; The Red River Region of The North; The River and The Region; The Immensity of The Yet Uninhabited Minnesota and Dakota Praries; The Northern Pacific Railroad; The Red River Trade of The Past Pembina Fort Garry and Winnipeg. Red River of the North is a North American river. Originating at the confluence of the Bois de Sioux and Otter Tail rivers between the U.S. states of Minnesota and North Dakota it flows northward through the Red River Valley forming most of the border of Minnesota and North Dakota and continuing into Manitoba. It empties into Lake Winnipeg whose waters join the Nelson River and ultimately flow into Hudson Bay. The watershed of the Red River was part of Rupert's Land the concession established by the British Hudson's Bay Company in north central North America. The Red was a key trade route for the company and contributed to the settlement of British North America. The river was long used by fur traders including the French and the Métis people who established a community in this area before the British defeated France in the Seven Years' War. Following that they took over French territory in Canada. Settlers of the Red River Colony established farming along the river and their primary settlement developed as Winnipeg Manitoba. What became known as the Red River Trails nineteenth-century oxcart trails developed originally by the Métis supported the fur trade and these settlements. They contributed to further development of the region on both sides of the international border. The Springfield Republican unknown
